Premier B Women’s Season Preview
The 2025 season for the VAFA Premier B Women’s competition promises to be one of the most exciting yet, with significant changes shaking up the competition. Only four teams remain
The VAFA Premier C Men’s competition was a fierce one in 2024, with Old Carey ultimately prevailing with a dominant Grand Final performance against Hampton Rovers to hoist the silverware in their 70th year.
Each VAFA Team of the Year is based on feedback and analysis from coaches, VAFA Media and umpires. And with so many good players spread across the competition this season, it was a tough job to whittle them down to the best 22 who have made the 2024 Premier C Men’s Team of the Year:
The two Grand Finalists make up almost half of the team, both with five players apiece.
Old Carey are well represented across all lines (Tom Horton, Luca Anderson, Isaac Elwood, Riley Thompson and Mitch Wooffindin), as well as premiership Coach Aaron Bailey.
Hampton Rovers also have five representatives evenly spread across the ground – James Prosser, Joel Melnjak, Max Coughlin, Clinton Young and Christian Carnovale, who was named as skipper.
AJAX contributed a couple of spearheads, with Richie Simon and Jordan Cohen both lining up in the forward line, alongside the VAFA’s leading goalkicker for 2024, Mitch Brown from the Parkdale Vultures. With a whopping 209 goals between them this season, that attack would take some stopping!
The ball spent too much time deep in Monash’s defence this season but the upside is some well-earned recognition for their two key defenders, Nixon Hall and Alex Bennett, who occupy the key posts in the Team of the Year after battling hard all season long.
League Best & Fairest Matthew Fewings from Mazenod will start on-ball alongside a couple of Glen Eira/Old McKinnon Saints, Lachlan Mirams and Will Green, with their team-mate Jesse Maxfield charging in off the wing.
Luke Ashen (Oakleigh), Adam Tomaro (Marcellin) and Jack Fenner (PEGS) were their club’s solo representative in 2024.
All in all, a talented line-up with class on every line and congratulations to all players who have received the honour this season.
