The VAFA’s first Women’s Team of the Year for 2024 has just landed! The Division 2 Women’s competition produced a quality standard of football with stars across the board.
Premiers, Glen Eira/Old McKinnon dominated the competition this season with a host of standout performers. They have four players across the best 22, with the Gryphons fearless leader Mel Kuys named as the Coach of the Div 2 Women’s Team of the Year.
Adding to a season brimming with accolades for Clare Fernandes of Whitefriars, she takes the role of skipper in the Team of the Year with teammates Rachel Smith and Caitlin Ryan featuring in the backline and half forward respectively.
The competition’s leading goal kicker in Zoe Rossiter is driving a strong cohort up forward alongside the sharpshooter from Hampton Rovers, Maegan Miller.
Isabella Cameron is one of four inclusions for the Hampton Rovers, earning the spot of fullback in the squad, while Power House has three players represented with Grace Read the star ruck of the 2024 season.
AJAX and Old Camberwell each have one player who played as teammates this season in the amalgamated Women’s team, with Alannah Frampton down back and Romy Klooger up forward.
Hawthorn, Oakleigh and Richmond Central each contribute two players to the 2024 Team of the Year while Natasha Borash is flying the flag for Old Trinity.
The VAFA Team of the Year’s are based on feedback and analysis from coaches, VAFA Media and umpires.
