The VAFA congratulates Charlie Wilce from Beaumaris who has received the Anytime Fitness Rising Star nomination for Round 16. Charlie started 2024 with a game in the Under 19s & has played ALL 16 Senior games, polling votes in 6 of them, including 2 x best on grounds in the past two weeks, which is a fantastic effort for a youngster in a losing side. He’s showing great leadership to get his job done every week in difficult circumstances.
What the club said:
At the very outset, the BFC Senior coaches could see Charlie was a special talent. What stood out was his incredible courage and desire to win the ball. This was coupled with natural athleticism and skill.
Last year Charlie won the coveted – Damien Guidolin Trophy for the BFC ‘Best & Fairest’ Under 19s player. He did this despite playing 6 games in the Seniors. In the 2023 VAFA U19s Division 1 Grand Final against Old Trinity, Charlie was central to the victory switching from defence to the forward line mid game in a pivotal move that was match winning. Charlie won the BFC Coaches award for Best Player in the Grand Final.
This season, Charlie has been a key member of the BFC Senior Men’s team. In the past two weeks he has been inspirational, clearly the best player for the BFC in both matches. There’s no question Charlie will figure prominently in this year’s Senior Mens B&F, such is the impact he’s had this season.
Coach Josh Bourke added his thoughts, “Charlie has been incredibly impressive since joining the club at the beginning of the 2023 season, he’s quickly established himself as fearless competitor capable of filling any role! During the 2024 season, Charlie has regularly found himself playing against the oppositions best midfielder or as happened against Williamstown, lining up on their best key forward. He is a team member his team mates want to play with and is a truly terrific young man! Well done Charlie!”
At just 19 years of age, Charlie has a tremendous future ahead. The Beaumaris Football Club is very proud to call him a Premiership Player, a Best & Fairest winner and a true Shark.
Congratulations Charlie Wilce!
