The Premier Thirds competition delivered arguably the biggest upset of the entire VAFA season, with St Kevin’s claiming the flag in a 5-point thriller over Old Xaverians, who had finished
The VAFA community and Victorian football in general is rallying behind popular St Kevin’s player Michael Pisker, who is recovering in hospital from serious head and eye injuries after an accidental collision during SKOB’s Round 12 game against Uni Blues.
The 26-year-old premiership star is one of the VAFA’s most talented and popular players, as evidenced by the enormous outpouring of public support since the accident.
Michael’s family have launched a Go Fund Me appeal to raise funds to assist with his recovery and have been touched by the generosity of people far and wide who have contributed to the fund so far.
“Michael remains in an induced coma at the Alfred Hospital,” said his mother, Alexandria.
“The medical team have provided Michael with the most amazing care, compassion, professionalism, expertise and love. He has undergone several surgeries this week following his 26th birthday on 29th July. It is a day-by-day situation where we are hopeful of positive news in the coming days.
“We thank every person that has supported and promoted Michael’s GoFundMe campaign. It has been unbelievable to see such amazing support, positive wishes and generosity. We encourage everyone to continue to support the GoFundMe campaign if possible.
“We are still unsure as to what the future holds and we will keep everyone updated as best we can in the coming weeks.”
