Winner Announcement June – The Pass Volunteer of the Month and Carruthers Executive Coach of the Month
The VAFA had requested clubs, players, and volunteers to nominate individuals who embody any of the VAFA values each month. Again, this month, the VAFA received numerous nominations showcasing inspiring stories of how these individuals make a positive impact through their volunteer work or coaching roles within their clubs.
Congratulations to Kevin O’Sullivan from Oakleigh Amateur Football Club for being named The Pass Volunteer of the Month.
Kevin has been with the club for 20 years carrying out various volunteers from cleaning clubrooms, cooking meals and assisting with football operations. Kevin was nominated by the club president, Pat Heverin.
“Kevin is 81 years old but does not a miss a training session or game day to support our players. Kevin helps cooking 70 meals every Thursday night at the club and knows every player by name. Kevin attends all social functions and often the last to leave cleaning up to make sure the social rooms are clean for the next day. Kevin is well respected by the younger generation and is always having a joke with the Women’s and Men’s teams. Kevin is a champion of our club!”
Congratulations to Lawrence Henry from Williamstown CYMS Football Club for being named Carruthers Executive Coach of the Month.
Lawrence Henry has been an integral part of the club for the last 12 years and has been in the coaching role for the past six years. Lawrence is also the driving force behind the success of the Women’s program for the club. Lawrence was nominated by the club president, Tess Beagley.
“Lawrence has been the head of the women’s program since its fruition in 2018. His commitment to the players and to the program is what has seen not only on field success in the recent months and years but the ability for the program to grow into 2 teams this year. Loz engages not only with the Williamstown Football club to make VFLW girls feel at home in our club but has worked tirelessly with the Williamstown Juniors to help develop and cement a player pathway for young girls in the club. Wearing the Blue and Gold is something Loz has taught players to hold close to hold close to their hearts as they represent not only their team and their club but the wider Williamstown community. He holds community as one of the highest values within the program and as we see our first generation of young girls grow up into CYs players, we have Loz to thank for allowing and encouraging them to pave the way.”
