The VAFA congratulates Olivia McGie from Williamstown CYMS who has been nominated as the Round 3 Anytime Fitness Rising Star. Olivia debuted with Williamstown CYMS in Round 1 and has featured in the best players for consecutive weeks, kicking her first goal this round.
What the Club said:
Olivia joined the CY’s in 2024 following two seasons with the Murray Bushrangers U18s in the Coates League talent pathway. Olivia made the leap to Senior footy in the VAFA, determined to elevate her game to new heights.
Juggling the demands of high school, Olivia travels over an hour each way to and from training from her home town of Broadford, showcasing her dedication and passion for footy. Olivia’s professionalism belies her age, quietly setting a standard to training and improving her game that immediately earned her the respect of her new teammates, and the moniker as the “Pocket Rocket”.
On the field, Olivia is quickly becoming known for her elite running ability, she brings speed and intensity to the contest, is a ferocious tackler, has sharp kicking skills and a knack of getting in dangerous positions in forward 50.
Coach, Lawrence Henry said, “We’re all admiring how humble and hard working Olivia is around the club. You won’t find a player who works harder and applies herself to any role the team needs, she’s had a fantastic start to the year and we know she’s just going to get better as she settles into the season.
Her game across half forward on Saturday was exceptional. Westbourne have a strong rebounding game from half back, Liv’s forward defensive pressure and tackling really shut that down and created scoring opportunities for her teammates. Her ability to also find space, take a couple of big contested marks and kick accurately complimented her tenacity at the contest with real class ball in hand.”
