The VAFA congratulates Will Drummond from Ormond AFC, who has received the Anytime Fitness Rising Star nomination for Round 3. Will dominated Round 3 with a 6 goal haul and was named best on ground.
What the club said:
Will grew up in Horsham and came to Ormond for pre-season training in 2023 due to a family connection with our coach Kyle Pinto.
Will is in Melbourne to continue his tertiary education and was keen to play football at a community-based club like Ormond.
Will played the first game of 2024 in the Under 19’s and quickly progressed to the senior 18 the following week.
Will had a breakout game in Round 3 when he kicked 6 goals in only his third game of senior football. Will was selected to play at full forward with an occasional run on the ball. This enabled Will to showcase his full array of skills.
Ormond head coach Kyle Pinto said, “Since arriving at the club this year we knew we had landed something special, a quiet young man off the field but a competitive beast on it. Will has instantly won the respect of his teammates and coaches with his ability to win the ball all around the ground and his contested marking forward of the ball. Will is a future captain of the club and we can’t wait to watch his development continue.”
