The VAFA is proud to announce a new year-long partnership with Sport4All focused on promoting inclusion and creating opportunities for people with disability across the VAFA community. This collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to making football accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with VAFA, which stands as the largest community-based football competition in the country, boasting over 65 clubs and fielding 300 teams each season,” stated Jeremy O’Sullivan, State Manager for Sport4All. “This collaboration presents an exciting opportunity for Sport4All to extend its reach to more clubs, offering support to an estimated 1 million Victorians with disability who aspire to engage in various roles within these clubs.”
This strategic alliance will provide VAFA staff and clubs with essential education and resources to cultivate inclusive environments. These initiatives will empower people with disability to participate fully in football, on or off the field. Sport4All is committed to supporting the successful implementation of this partnership. A designated State Sport Coach will collaborate with VAFA clubs across the association, offering ongoing guidance and support to ensure best practices in inclusion are integrated within the VAFA community.
“The VAFA is delighted to partner with Sport4All in 2024,” said Sean Walker, VAFA General Manager – Community & Club Support. “This collaboration will equip VAFA clubs with the resources and knowledge to be more inclusive, embrace diversity, and create opportunities for people with disability.”
Maria Strong, Inclusion Coach for Sport4All in Victoria, said, “I’m looking forward to working with the VAFA in 2024 and supporting the clubs in their inclusion journey. Sport4All’s resources are huge assets to help clubs in create a welcoming environment for people with disability, be they players, umpires, or spectators.”
By working together, Sport4All and the VAFA are paving the way for a more inclusive future for football in Victoria. This partnership will empower VAFA clubs to become hubs of opportunity, ensuring everyone has the chance to feel connected and valued within the sport.
