The VAFA congratulates Erin Hopkins from Mazenod OC Football Club who has been nominated as the Round 18 Anytime Fitness Rising Star. Erin had a breakout performance on the weekend with 4 goals in her fourth senior game, earning her a spot in the best afield.
What the club said:
Erin Hopkins has come to Mazenod Women’s football in season 2023 through friends playing at the club, with no history of playing football at all. Her sporting background was in basketball, which was evident from day one in her strong marking and body work in the ruck. In her first year of football she had some early opportunities to play senior football but for most of the season played in the reserves. She got her late season call up on the back of some marked improvement and her focus and dedication to working by herself to improve her skills. This has resulted in her playing in the senior team at full forward for the last two games of the regular season, and kicking goals in both games.
