After three rounds of football, the Premier C ladder is starting to take shape as numerous potential contenders emerge and others stumble out of the blocks.
Parkdale has bounced back tremendously at home, pushing Marcellin to 0-3 on the back of a strong 43-point win at Gerry Green Reserve. Marcellin were always a couple steps behind, and unfortunately couldn’t match the Vultures’ firepower up front as they booted 17 goals on 30 registered attempts.
The hosts kicked six goals to their visitors’ three in both the first and third quarters to really assert themselves and get their engine running in season 2023.
The win is the Vultures’ first of the year and was highlighted by the performance of star Ryan Macdermid who slammed home an outstanding nine goals to solidify himself as a true contender to lead all goal-kickers this season.
He was deservedly named the best player on the ground, while Daniel Di Paola was named best for the losing Marcellin side, they’ll now travel to face a rested PEGS.
Parkdale will hope they can create a mini winning streak beginning with a win over the Hampton Rovers this Saturday.
Old Camberwell have used their home ground to full advantage, taking down the Hampton Rovers, who showed strong form in round one but have suffered back-to-back losses since.
The win was set up by an excellent five-goal-to-two opening term, giving the hosts an 18-point lead at the first change.
The travelling Rovers then fought back and won the second term by a goal to trim the deficit to just two straight kicks, but their impending inaccuracy eventually cost them a real shot at victory.
They kicked just five behinds to the Wellers two goals in the third term and then added just two behinds in the final quarter to finish with 5.12 for the match, really becoming their own worst enemy in the 44-point loss.
Old Camberwell kicked four goals straight in final term to run away with the win, thanks to standout performances from Kellan Percy and Harry Laukens.
As for the visitors, Christian Carnovale was best afield, his side will face off with Parkdale on the road this weekend, while the Wellers will have the bye.
Ormond and Mazenod have submitted their contender for game of the year with an outstandingly close contest at E.E Gunn Reserve.
After trailing by eight points at quarter time and 25 points at halftime, Ormond resurrected their chances of a home victory with a six-goal to three third term which tied the scores at 68.
The Nodders accuracy through three quarters must be commended though, it’s most likely the catalyst for their clutch win, kicking a remarkable 11.2 by three quarter time.
They again generated more shots in the final term, but were much more inaccurate, however they did enough to escape with a four point win as both sides booted four goals in the race to the siren, as Mazenod’s 15.7.97 outdid Ormond’s 14.9.93.
What made the game even more even was the fact that both sides had a player boot five goals, Jeremy Simon for Ormond and Jack Caspersz for Mazenod and each with one that kicked three goals in Zachary Dakis and the best on ground man Shaun Lovell.
Mazenod’s second straight win sees them generate momentum for their upcoming fixture against Old Carey, while Ormond will look to bounce back against Old Ivanhoe.
Old Ivanhoe have got the job done against a brave Old Carey, who showed plenty of fight and valour at Carey Sports Complex.
Carey started brilliantly out of the blocks, playing some clean footy to hold a slim lead, by a solitary point at quarter time kicking three-straight to Ivanhoe’s 2.5.
The hosts then continued to take the fight right up to their top four hopeful visitors in the second quarter as they really just kept teaching them a class in goal kicking accuracy.
The disparity was clear at halftime as Old Carey led by three points, but had kicked two more majors, Old Ivanhoe’s scoreline reading an ugly 4.10.34.
Despite even more inaccuracy in the premiership quarter, the visiting Old Ivanhoe were able to wrestle back the lead thanks to an improved defensive effort, holding their now bottom-of-the-ladder hosts to just one goal, while slotting three of their own.
It was the final term where it both all came together for Jarrod Gieschen’s men, and all fell apart for Aaron Bailey’s squad, as the visitors poured on five goals to two to run out 26-point winners.
Patrick Naish was adjudged best on ground while Elliot Nicholl slotted three majors, while for Old Carey, Luca Anderson who was best and Mitch Wooffindin who kicked two.
Wooffindin and the rest of Bailey’s men will now face Mazenod away from home while home date with Ormond awaits Old Ivanhoe.
