Open Season! For the Love of the Game’s Round 1 Review
Jason Bennett, Joey Pignataro & Paddy Grindlay look back at an action-packed opening round of VAFA season 2025: Plus: The World Famous TIPS – which tipster picked a perfect 5/5
The VAFA congratulates Caleb Lewis from St Bedes Mentone Tigers who has been nominated as the weekends Rising Star. Caleb kicked three goals and was named in the best for SBMT after the clubs 40 point win over Williamstown CYMS at the weekend.
What the club said:
Caleb joined SBMT in season 2022 after finishing his junior career at Sandringham Dragons in 2021, where he was selected in the AFL Rookie Draft.
A product of the Mordialloc-Braeside Junior Football Club, Caleb had the pleasure of playing with current AFL Footballers Blake Howes and Finn Callaghan, represented the SMJFL on numerous occasions, and was a Vic Metro U16 representative player.
A player of great versatility, Caleb can play as both a key defender and forward, can also rotate in the ruck, with a great ability to pinch hit in that position from time to time. In fact, he catches the eye in everything that he does especially his ability to take contested pack marks on a regular basis, with his ability to read the play an added bonus.
Since joining our club, Caleb has played with both our U19s and Senior men’s teams, where he has played up forward on most occasions kicking 30 goals in just 6 games.
A very likeable young man who is studying law, Caleb has endeared himself to everyone at the club in his short time with us, and we all thoroughly congratulate him on being the nominee of this well-deserved award.
