The VAFA congratulates Luke Green from Preston Bullants who has been nominated as the weekends Rising Star. Luke has been a regular in the Preston senior side throughout this season and has come back from adversity after suffering a knee injury earlier this year.
What the club said:
Luke Green has been a shining light for the Preston Bullants this season as he has held down a key back position in the seniors and U19s. Luke’s season started with a serious knee dislocation. His rehab was determined , following advice never missing a milestone. On his return he immediately impacted games.
Luke’s ability to read the game combined with “ an engine “ results in him becoming an influential player in taking intercept marks. It’s a rarity to see a player of his height be clean under pressure below his knees. It doesn’t happen by chance as his intensity at training is great for such a player and will continue to improve.
Everyone at Preston loves to see the big man drift across a pack and take a mark stopping the opposition in their tracks or applying a defensive spoil when it counts. He relishes the contest , never takes a backward step against, what is often, more experienced opposition.
A man of few words , he leads by his actions which is loved by his team mates and coaches. They say that tall players take a while to develop. Luke is a favourable exception, at training he works on his craft , knowledge for the game as well as his fitness. Around the club off field he always helps without fuss or fanfare.
We all look forward to seeing Luke progress in the next couple of years and fulfil his potential.
