The full statement from De La Salle is below:
A significant move tonight sees Club Senior Coach Dave Madigan stepping down as Senior Coach. Due to his personal circumstances changing, it has made the commitment to the levels required difficult in the short to long term. In a move driven by Madigan, the Club made tribute to him by putting the Club first in making this decision.
In a statement made in front of the Club tonight, Madigan said “since I stepped into the role at the end of 2019 work and personal life has become a little more complex. I have taken time to consider how I manage a number of current and pending changes, and as a result have agreed to discontinue in my role as Senior Coach.
The Club is and has always been supportive. It is a time of change and rebuilding for De La Salle and this will hopefully provide an opportunity for the energy and time required to be invested in what is obviously a crucial role. I have enjoyed my time as coach and am grateful for having been able to work with the players, football department, committee and volunteers that have endured some difficult times, as all in community sport have.
I am looking forward to seeing an amazing crop of young players and fine leaders continue to strive for sustainable success!”
Madigan has been Senior Coach for an equal record 7 years, and had already made it known he was not able to commit for 2023, the Club is in full support of the decision and wishes Dave all the best for his future endeavours.
In light of this, the Club feels it is the right time to appoint Nick Hyland as interim coach for the 2022 season. Nick who is currently Senior Assistant Coach, had made his coaching journey at the Club and is now thrilled to have the opportunity to show his capability as Senior Coach.
Nick addressed the Club for the first time as Senior Coach tonight and when asked about the step up and opportunity he said “I’m extremely humble and grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given. I’m really looking forward to developing in the role and growing in the role and helping the playing group achieve as much success as we can. I’ve worked with a lot of the playing group before, so I’m really looking forward to building on that and hopefully we can have some sustained success in years to come.”

Both De La Salle and the wider VAFA community wish Dave well in his future endeavours. De La Salle travel out to Banksia Reserve this Saturday to face Beaumaris with the aim of getting their first win of the season.
