Your first game is always an exciting experience, but for Caulfield Grammarian’s Charlotte Anderson, her debut had even more meaning thanks to her being the inaugural father-daughter player for the Club.
Charlotte’s Dad is the 2000 CGFC Reserves Premiership ruckman Paul Anderson, Paul played 79 games in his career for the Fields and was on the sideline watching Charlotte playing against St. Mary’s Salesian.
Paul is well known within the football club and Charlotte’s debut has brought nostalgia into the air, with many reminiscing about how much of a star he was for the club. As a Dad he was quick to play down his part on the weekend.
“I couldn’t say that I ever dominated. Charlie is a far better footballer at 18 than I ever was. It was great to see her play her 1st game in the colours.” Paul said to VAFA.com.au earlier this week.
Charlotte had a brilliant debut for the Fields and at 18 years old looked more than comfortable at the level. Kicking three goals on debut it was a huge day for her, her family and the club as a whole. To go with her goals Charlie racked up 10 marks and 30 touches, for an all round performance.
“I am a bit of a nervous watcher, but she was able to get into the game early on which made it a much easier watch.” Anderson said
“I am very proud of her efforts, she just keeps improving every game she plays.”
It wasn’t just Charlotte who played a great game, the team had an excellent day out holding St Mary’s Salesian scoreless for the second time in as many seasons. With a 14.19.103 scoreline Caulfield wasted no opportunity and played a strong team game that will see them challenging for a finals spot once again.
With such an impressive debut It won’t be the last time we see Charlotte kicking a bag for the Fields who are back again this Saturday against Kew at Glenhuntly Oval.
