Old Scotch FC has added serious firepower to its women’s program ahead of the 2022 season with the appointment of Dean Anderson as Senior Women’s Coach.
Anderson, who returns to the club after coaching the senior men to three finals appearances in three seasons, played 150 VFL/AFL games with Hawthorn and St Kilda. He was a part of the premiership-winning Hawks teams in 1989 (vs Geelong) and 1991 (vs WCE).
“I am delighted to be appointed to head up the coaching of the Stars & Sharks in what is an exciting women’s football program,” Anderson said in Old Scotch’s announcement.
“My previous experience with the club as Men’s Senior Coach was rewarding and I am looking forward to being involved with this great club again.”
He currently sits on the St Kilda FC Board as Football Director – the responsibilities of which include AFLW.
Prior to his time with the Cardinals, Anderson coached Caulfield Grammarians for three seasons from 2000-2002 which included the D Section premiership. That too was a return for Anderson after he was initially recruited to Hawthorn from the Fields.
His involvement and understanding of the VAFA runs deep, having coached at representative level for five years. In 2011, he led the A-B Sections team to a six-point win over the VCFL in Shepparton, ending a four-game losing streak against the Country.
From a playing perspective, he represented Victoria twice in State of Origin, and played two games of International Rules against Ireland in 1990.
