Premier B Women’s returned straight back into finals action, with no time for cobwebs or rustiness. Both games featured plenty of scoring and quality football, but it was Beaumaris and Melbourne University, as tipped, who won their respective matches.
At Banksia Reserve, the Sharks shook off a slow start to outgun Fitzroy-ACU on their home turf by 6 points. Simone Marinelli’s two goals were critical for the hosts, as was the performance of Amelia Bartlem who was best on the ground. Teisha Parkinson did as much as she could to keep Fitzroy, booting two majors and starring for the visitors. Beaumaris now progress to a semi-final against Geelong, while Fitzroy have the off-season to rue a missed opportunity in 2021.
Melbourne Uni picked up right where they left off before lockdown, taking Old Geelong apart to the tune of 40 points. From quarter-time onwards it was one way traffic as Asha Price continued her goalkicking consistency with three. Jade Tancred also kicked two, taking her season tally to 12. Tessa Longden kicked the only goal for OG. Melbourne are now straight through to the final, whilst Geelong must take the long route via a Beaumaris who are back in form.
