The Holmesglen Under 19 Premier Men’s competition provided some thrilling footy in 2024, with so much exciting young talent on display. Old Brighton (15-3) claimed the minor premiership by two
The VAFA congratulates Old Mentonians forward, Angus Grant, who has been named the Round 12 Mecwacare Rising Star after he slotted eight goals in a sensational BOG performance against Preston Bullants on the weekend.
Grant debuted at senior level in Round 1 and played every game for the Panthers since.
What the club said:
“Angus (Gus) Grant graduated from Mentone Grammar School in 2019.
Angus played school firsts football in 2018/2019 and (3) games of U19 football at Old Mentonians in 2019, joining the Club as a father/son recruit. This season, Angus is currently on the Frankston VFL development academy list and Sandringham Dragons list, as a 19-year-old.
Angus arrived at Old Mentonians’ preseason extremely fit over the summer and he is renowned for his hard work and training ethic. He loves his football and is always striving to improve with every training session. The preseason work and training ethic displayed were the real driving force behind why he made his senior debut for the Old Mentonians in Round 1. Angus has played every senior game this season. Displaying genuine leadership both on and off field, Angus is a respectful young man.
Being a one-eyed Carlton supporter, Angus would love to be compared to one of his idols, but I am sure he wouldn’t mind being compared to a player with the versatility of a Mark Blicavs or Nik Cox. Angus has the flexibility to play multiple roles, ruck, key back / key forward and/or wing. He has impressed everyone with his courage, competitiveness, skills and footy smarts. After a string of very good performances, it is fantastic for Angus to receive his nomination after his strong performance and (8) goals last weekend.”
