St Bernard’s claimed their third win of the season as they defeated Collegians by 43 points at the Snake Pit. After giving up the first three goals of the match, the Snow Dogs kicked into gear with the next eight before running away with another eight goals to six in the second half. Charlie Vague kicked three goals and was awarded the Base Compression Man of the Match, while Marcus Holland kicked three of his own. Adam Bentick made his return to footy with two goals and plenty of disposals while Viv Michie, Nick Canny and Oli Jackson (4 goals) were their best. The Lions suffered three significant injuries to Sam Hibbins, Viv Michie and Luke McCleary, the latter of which forced an early end to the game as an ambulance was required for his injured elbow.
Nine goals from Will Lewis steered Old Brighton to their second win over Uni Blues in 2021, running out 46-point winners at Brighton Beach Oval. Leading by 34 points at the main break, the Tonners were tested by the Blues as they reduced the margin to two points, before Lewis led them to an eight-goal final term. Callan Wellings was a standout alongside Lewis while Jack Stephens and Lachlan Swaney were the best for the Blues.
Caulfield Grammarians entered the top four and made it five wins in a row when they ran out 76-point winners against Old Trinity at Glenhuntly Oval. The Fields led by 23 points at half-time but accelerated with nine goals to one in the third term. Lachlan Stephens was the star of the show with nine majors while Brett Eddy booted a season-high seven. Harry Thompson and Christos Manoussakis fought valiantly for the T’s. The win means the Fields leapfrog the Blues into the four.
Old Xaverians proved too strong for Old Scotch with a 57-point win at Camberwell Sports Ground. Leading by 32 at the final break, Xavs made sure of things with four unanswered goals in the final term. Jack Hewitt kicked a season-high five goals for Xavs, while Hayden Troiani continued his outstanding form. Will Clark and Mackenzie Rivett were the best for Scotch – the latter playing just his second game this season.
Three straight goals in the fourth quarter helped St Kevin’s OB to their seventh win of the season, defeating Old Melburnians by 22 points at TH King Oval. Leading by just four points at three quarter time, SKOB finished in a canter with Phil Edgar (4) and Tom Jok (3) leading the charge on the scoreboard. Edgar and Josh Wallis were named best for SKOB, while Gus Borthwick and Sean Heatherington starred for OM’s.
