Not only did Power House register their first win for season 2021, but they did it in style, running away 65 points over Emmaus St Leos. A 6 goal to nil first half all but sealed victory, as Power House registered 7 individual goal kickers. Brittany Tancred (3 goals) and Alana Murray (2 goals) led the way, with Murray’s efforts recognised as the best for the day. Yet again Victoria Holt was the Animals best, but it’s a win that Power House will be hoping kickstarts their campaign, as they enter this week as favourites against South Melbourne Districts.
A complete four quarter performance saw Hampton Rovers extend their undefeated start to 2021, with a comfortable 41-point victory over South Melbourne Districts at Castlefield Reserve. Despite the convincing win, inaccuracy was Hampton’s enemy for the day, sending through 7.15 (57) with their 21 scoring shots, compared to South Melbourne’s 6 scoring shots. Doing the damage on the scoreboard for the Rovers was Bree-Anna Kavanagh, Maegen Miller and Gabriella Samkova (2 goals each). There were encouraging signs for South Melbourne, as both Megan Brydon and Jocelyn Reinshagen kicked their first goals for the season, and Isabelle Smith player her best game. An intriguing battle takes place this week, with South Melbourne and Power House both looking for their second win of the season, whilst for Hampton, they’ll take on the 4th placed Bulleen Templestowe.
12 points was all that separated Glen Eira and Oakleigh, with Glen Eira overcoming a half time deficit to walk away with the win. Holding Oakleigh to just one second half goal in a dominant defensive display was key to the Gryphons victory, which allowed Ella Williams at the other end to put through 2 goals and prove the difference on the day. Zoe Rossiter also slotted a goal on her way to a best afield display. Despite the loss, Oakleigh only sit one game outside the top 4 and will be encouraged by the strong form of Cassandra Bethune and Maggie Minchin. Glen Eira move into second position on the ladder, making a strong case for as a serious finals contender in their first season in Division 3.
Despite a quiet week from competition leading goal scorer Lindi Nankin, AJAX were too strong for Bulleen Templestowe, with a consistent four quarter effort resulting in a 32 point win at Lindsay Hassett Oval. Racing out to a 28-point lead by half time, AJAX were led by Jessica Marget (BOG) and Jessica Israel (2 goals), before Bulleen Templestowe were able to put together a stronger second half display and slow the scoring. Laura Mayne played a lone hand up forward for Bulleen Templestowe, as she booted their only 2 majors for the day. An undefeated Hampton Rovers awaits Bulleen Templestowe this week, whilst its match of the round territory for AJAX as they come up against Glen Eira in a 2nd vs 3rd battle.
