Caulfield Grammarians caused the upset of the round in William Buck Premier Men’s when they defeated Old Xaverians by six points at Glenhuntly Oval. The Fields, who won their first game of the year last week, led by seven points at three quarter time before both sides piled on five each in a thrilling final term. Skipper Will Edwards starred for the Fields in a BOG performance while Julian Dobosz kicked four. Grant Valles continued to prove a handful in front of the Xavs goals with three alongside another standout game from Hayden Troiani. The Fields now move into sixth spot on the ladder while the Xavs fall to fourth.
For the second week in a row, University Blues came from behind to record victory as they ran down Collegians by three points at the Uni Oval. The Lions delivered their best football of the season in the first half with Dave Mirra’s six goals leading them to a 31-point lead at the main break. The comeback commenced in the third term when the Blues kicked five goals to two before finishing off with another three to one in the fourth. Kieran Harper booted four second half goals and finished with six for the Blues while Alex Fasolo slotted four. Mirra’s first half was sensational, while Lions young guns Josh Watson and William Damico provided plenty of spark.
Five rounds into the season and Old Brighton sit on top of the ladder after they secured a 12-point victory over Old Melburnians at Brighton Beach Oval. With just one point separating the sides at the last break, the Tonners finished with flare as they kicked four goals to two in the final term. Dylan Verney continued his outstanding form for the Tonners, as did Anthony Zimmerman who kicked two and proved dangerous all afternoon. Jackson Paine led the charge for OM’s with three majors and Sam Dunell returned for his second game with another standout performance.
Old Scotch moved into eighth spot on the ladder on the back of their second win for the year, running over St Bernard’s by seven points at the Snake Pit. Scotch trailed slightly at every break throughout the day before finishing with four goals to one in a match-winning final term. Their accuracy certainly proved the difference with 10.4 (64) to the Snow Dogs’ 7.15 (57). Max Martin was best afield with his three goals for the Cards while Andy Jelbart dished out another sensational performance. Zachary O’Halloran and Charlie Vague were the best of the Snow Dogs.
St Kevin’s OB claimed their fourth win from five outings with a 16-point victory over Old Trinity at TH King Oval. The second-placed SKOB led by four points at the last break but kicked two unanswered goals in the fourth. Joshua Wallis continued his red-hot form for SKOB and Matt Presutto was at his best. Charlie Beasley and Alex Emery were once again outstanding for the T’s.
