VAFA club leaders join AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ program
The VAFA is thrilled to announce that six leaders from across our competition have been selected to participate in AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ Program in 2025. Selection for Lead
The AFL has announced its NAB AFLW Community Cup Ambassadors at the official 2021 NAB AFLW season launch today, with the VAFA’s very own, Shona MacInnes, named the Victorian ambassador.
The inaugural NAB AFLW Community Cup Ambassador Program was established to recognise members of the female football community who have been instrumental in facilitating and nurturing the remarkable growth of women’s football.
Shona, who joined the VAFA as Women’s Football Development Manager in 2016, established the Association’s women’s football competition from its inauguration, and it has since grown into the largest in the country.
Speaking to VAFA Media, Shona said she is “truly honoured to be appointed to the role”.
“It has certainly come on the coattails of the foresight and hard work from our great VAFA community,” she said.
“We all know the positive impact women’s footy has had, not only on our VAFA clubs, but throughout the entire football community. The opportunity to promote this further is something I am looking forward to.”
Shona has been involved in football since she was a student at Melbourne University where she took on various voluntary roles across fundraising, events, and on match day. She has previously sat on the Board of Melbourne University Football Club as well as spending two years as President of Kew Junior Football Club.
Each NAB AFLW Community Cup Ambassador receives a $1,000 grant from the Women’s Football Fund to donate to the club of their choice and the opportunity to be involved in the 2021 NAB AFLW Finals Series.
The VAFA congratulates Shona on the outstanding and deserved recognition for her service to women’s football.
