St Francis Xavier completed their dream season with the Division 4 premiership, defeating Albert Park by 38 points at Trevor Barker Oval.
Following the individual brilliance of Daniel Chin (OJ Meehan Medallist) and Harrison Coe (Division 4 Leading Goal Kicker) recently, the X-Men capped off their season with a match-winning seven unanswered goals in the first term.
They’d extended their lead to 52 points by the half until the Falcons mounted a bit of a comeback with six goals to five in the second half.
Coe, who kicked 105 goals throughout the home and away fixture as the sole centurion in the competition, booted five alongside brother Marcus’ three. Daniel Soeurream and Shane Woolley were outstanding for the X-Men, with Soeurream named best afield by the officiating umpires.
Steven Hasselerharm and Matthew Corstorphin were standouts for the Falcons who will now return to Division 3 on the back of 12 wins from their 16 home and away games.
Earlier in the day, South Melbourne Districts proved too strong for La Trobe University as they took out the Division 4 Reserve flag by 31 points.
The minor premiers trailed the Trobers by six points at half time but fought back with a dominant eight goals to three thereafter, including five in the third term.
Swans forward Walter Cosgrave saved one of his best performances until the decider with six goals in a BOG display, taking his season tally to 46 from 14 games. Benjamin Rose also kicked two for the Swans while Michael Burrowes and Damien Hamel were the best for the Trobers.
