Moving a game clear into the four following Round 16 was Ajax as they downed a wayward Mazenod by 19 points at Central Reserve. Richie Simon and Jake Lew gathered the votes, while Stuart Fayman kicked three to help the Jackas grab their fifth straight win and move into third, their highest mark for the season.
Now moving a game adrift of 8th spot and potentially avoiding relegation was Old Camberwell as they gritted out a 13-point win over Old Mentonians at Gordon Barnard Reserve. Thanks to three goals apiece from Nicholas Latsas and Scott Kaiser, as well as a BOG performance from James Allen, the Wellers claimed a monumental victory which also makes it tough for the Panthers to feature in September.
Taking care of business and keeping their season alive on Saturday afternoon was Marcellin as they sped past PEGS by 23 points at Marcellin College. Five goals to James Baxter, as well as three each to Adam Tomaro and Lachlan Rush, helped the Eagles move into striking distance of an unlikely top-four berth.
A final quarter flurry from Ormond has helped them return to the winners list as they downed Hampton Rovers by 45 points at E.E.Gunn Reserve. Tied at three quarter time, the Monders’ used an 8.5 to 1.2 final term to run past the Rovers and to their 11th win of the year. Thomas Buckley was named best afield while Blair Atkins and Jack McCartney combined for seven majors en route to victory.
It was a sweet 16 on the trot for Williamstown CYMS as they breezed past Old Ivanhoe by 53 points at Chelsworth Park. Kallan Dawson and Nicholas Blackney received the votes while Mitch Parkinson booted three for the Seagulls as they maintained a perfect season for another week.
