42 scoring shots to 15 helped Peninsula claim their third win from four games, defeating St Mary’s Salesian by 67 points at the Peninsula School. The Pirates booted eight goals to two in the opening term before the Saints fought back and allowed the Pirates just two more goals than them (11-9) for the remainder of the game. Jake Williams and Sam Glenn were outstanding for the Pirates alongside a four-goal haul from veteran Shaun Payze. Heath Chipperfield impressed for the Saints as they remain seventh but now two games out of the four.
A final quarter surge helped UHS-VU to their 11th win of the season, running out 56-point winners over West Brunswick at Ransford Oval. The Vultures trailed through the entire first half and only entered three quarter time with a six-point lead before exploding with seven unanswered goals in the fourth. Fraser Allen and Ben Dimattina were at the forefront of the Vultures’ comeback while Luke Buckler and Cameron Perkins starred for the Westies.
Therry Penola eventually proved too strong for Prahran Assumption, coming from six points down at the last break and defeating the Two Blues by nine at Toorak Park. It was a tight encounter throughout the day with no more than six points separating the two sides at any break. Kane O’Halloran top-scored for the Lions with three majors while Brett Dickinson was best for the Two Blues.
Preston Bullants retained third spot on the Division 1 ladder via a 59-point victory over Old Paradians at Ruthven Reserve. The Bullants led at every break throughout the match but turned the screws with six goals to two in the final term. James King had a day out with six goals for the Bullants and was named best afield for the third game in a row. Matthew Luciani and Michael Boundy booted three each for the Raiders.
Tipped as the match of the round with two top four sides facing off, it was Kew who ran out eight-point victors over Oakleigh at Scammell Reserve. The Bears trailed by 13 points at half time but booted six of the last nine goals with Richard Wilton finishing the match with three. Ned Waters, Max Waters and Brin Duggan (pictured) were standouts for the Bears while Liam Gillard and Corey Moore shone for the Krushers.
