Old Ivanhoe and Hampton Rovers drew at the Boss James Reserve. Both teams came off defeats last round and both were eager to bounce back. The match had lots of ebbs and flows with both teams giving it their all in a tight contest. Hampton Rovers were on song in the second quarter where they piled on five goals to Old Ivanhoe’s four. The match was up for grabs at three quarter time with only three points separating the two teams. Hampton Rovers’ Matthew Rienets, Harrison McIntyre and Anthony Folino all were influential with two goals each. Old Ivanhoe’s Seamus Gibbs, Jack Welham, Richard Skok and Brandon Lee combined with eight goals. Old Ivanhoe will hope to get back on the winners list when they host Old Camberwell Grammarians at Chelsworth Park. Old Ivanhoe defeated Old Camberwell a couple of weeks ago by a point, so expect this match to be again close with Old Ivanhoe eyeing off the win to try and consolidate fourth spot. Hampton Rovers will face PEGS away, with a victory likely to follow due to their win two weeks ago when the two sides last met.
Mazenod completely outclassed PEGS to the tune of 92 points at Central Reserve. The Nodders came out all guns blazing in the opening term, scoring 10 goals and keeping the PEGS to only two behinds. Mazenod are on a roll in Premier C with a four-match winning streak. Matthew Fewings starred for Mazenod with four goals. The PEGS backs had their hands full all afternoon and their forwards struggled to trouble the scorers with goals. Mazenod will need to be on top of their game, as they clash against the second placed Ormond at the E.E. Gunn Reserve. The PEGS went down to the Hampton Rovers two weeks ago by 26-points, but they will use the home ground advantage to their favour in the hopes of securing their second win of the season.
Ajax pulled off a 41-point victory over Marcellin at the Gary Smorgon Oval. The win for the Jackas was set up in the third term where they piled on five goals to Marcellin’s one and led by a match winning lead of 48-points at three quarter time. Ajax went on to hold Marcellin to four goals for the rest of the match, as they kicked 11 of their own. Charles Hamilton and Jake Lew were influential scoring two goals each for Ajax. Ajax will have their work cut out when they face the undefeated top-placed Williamstown CYMS at Fearon Reserve. Marcellin will host Old Mentonians in a match that looks like it could go either way with only a win separating the two sides on the ladder.
Ormond notched up a narrow win over Old Camberwell Grammarians by a goal at the Gordon Barnard Reserve. Ormond were the better team for three quarters, as they kept Old Camberwell to two goals up until three quarter time. It was the final term comeback from Old Camberwell that almost gifted them the unexpected win scoring the only four goals of the quarter, but they left their run too late. Ormond’s Henry Simon booted through three goals in a fine performance up-forward. Ormond will host Mazenod at E.E. Gunn Reserve in what is shaping to be an electrifying contest between the second and fifth placed sides in Premier C. Old Camberwell Grammarians will look to spoil Old Ivanhoe Grammarians chances of cementing their spot in the top four when they clash at Chelsworth Park.
Williamstown CYMS remain undefeated after a solid 22-point victory over the third placed Old Mentonians at Keysborough Playing Fields. Old Mentonians kept up with Williamstown CYMS in the first quarter, but Williamstown CYMS started to bridge the gap on the scoreboard in the second and third terms where they scored four and five goals respectively. Jacob Wheelahan booted four goals for Williamstown CYMS. Old Mentonians Max Rothberg tried hard all match slotting through four majors. In the last quarter, Old Mentonians came hard at Williamstown CYMS scoring four goals to one. Williamstown CYMS will host Ajax and hope to continue their strong form with an 11th straight win. Ajax will hope they can repeat the efforts of Round 5 where they almost caused an upset win over Williamstown, eventually going down to Williamstown by a point at Gary Smorgon Oval. Marcellin will be keen to prove themselves as top four contenders when they face the third placed Old Mentonians at Marcellin College.
