Ormond was able to secure a 13-point victory in a close encounter against Mazenod at Central Reserve. A slew of missed opportunities during the first term left the Nodders behind by just over two goals at the break. Mazenod outscored the Monders during the second, developing a two-point lead, before Ormond ran away with the ball-game with their five goals to three in the final quarter. For the victors, Sam Mason was impressive with five majors and teammate Ethan Hanley was best-on-ground. Thomas Warby was the best for Mazenod. Ormond will return home in Round 5 following this, their third victory, when they face Old Camberwell coming off a disappointing loss to Hampton. After giving Ormond a run for their money, Mazenod will travel to Boss James Reserve in search for their second win against Hampton.
Old Ivanhoe achieved an important win by 29 points against Marcellin at Chelsworth Park despite early worries. A three-goal lead at quarter time put Marcellin in good stead for the match, but the Hoers crept the margin to just two points at the half to set up a six-goal to nothing third term. Three goals from Jack Welham and another terrific performance from Luke Velluto allowed the Hoers to capture their second win for 2019. Marcellin’s Andrew Kay was named their best. After this big win over the Eagles, Old Ivanhoe will look like a serious threat to the currently undefeated Old Mentonians ahead of Round 5, while Marcellin will look to trouble PEGS with another loss away from home.
Williamstown CYMS hold top sport on the ladder after fiercely beating PEGS by 99 points at Fearon Reserve. At the first term, it was PEGS who led by five points when Williamstown kicked it up a notch booting 17 goals to one for the match remainder. The goal-scoring was led by Dean Cutajar and Mitch Parkinson with three goals apiece, as well as a best-on effort for Parkinson. Adrian Romanyk scored all of PEGS’ goals and sits on 12 overall for the season to date, and Liam Mercieca was their best. PEGS will host Marcellin in Round 5 as the Bombers continue to search for their first win for season 2019, while Williamstown CYMS head to Gary Smorgon Oval to face Ajax.
Old Mentonians remain second on the ladder after beating Ajax by 35 points at home. With just one goal in it at the first break, Old Mentonians went on to kick nine goals to the Jackas four for the remaining three quarters which allowed them to seal the win. Max Rothberg kicked a bag of five, putting his total for the season at 13, while Comrey Edgeworth was named best. For the Jackas, Jake Lew snagged two and Jeremy Forbes was their best in the loss. Ajax will look to muster their finest performance to topple Williamstown CYMS (1st) next week, who are looking invincible with four straight wins for the season, while Old Mentonians (2nd) will host Old Ivanhoe (4th) at Keysborough Playing Fields in a thrilling fifth round clash.
Hampton Rovers will be ecstatic after their pivotal first win for their 2019 campaign, shocking Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve by a margin of 24 points. The contest was led by Hampton at the first break by just a goal, with the significant part of the game coming in the third as the Rovers outscored the Wellers three goals to one to amass a small lead. With the work already been done in the third, the Rovers held firm in the fourth and achieve this big upset. Three goals to Sam Bradford and consecutive best on ground performance from Ryan Fogarty made all the difference for the Rovers, while the Wellers’ James Allen continued his fine form in their defeat. In what promises to be an entertaining contest, Hampton will welcome Mazenod this weekend while Old Camberwell will look to bounce back against the Monders.
