Peninsula OB commenced their 2019 season with a comfortable 57-point victory over Therry Penola at Peninsula School Ground. Seven unanswered goals in the opening term paved the ways for the Pirates’ emphatic victory as captain and B-D4 Big V representative Sam Glenn led the charge with four goals. Jordan Pomeroy starred with three goals in a BOG display, while Daniel McCracken and Mitchell Trimble played well for the Lions.
St Mary’s Salesian proved too strong for West Brunswick as they ran out 24-point winners at Elsternwick Park. Leading by seven points at half time, the Saints kicked away with seven goals to four thereafter. Jack Elliston was the main destroyer in front of goal and finished with five alongside Manny Dolan’s three majors. Luke Buckler was a standout for the Westies and Cameron Perkins finished with three goals.
Kew notched up their first win of the season with a strong 50-point win over Old Paradians at Victoria Park. Nine goals to two in the opening half proved the difference as both sides nailed five each in the third and fourth terms. Nathan Sambevski top-scored with four goals for the Bears, while Michael Henderson was best afield. Michael Boundy and Marcus Nolan nailed two each for the Raiders.
After winning two consecutive flags and re-entering Division 1 for the first time in 40 years, UHS-VU showed no signs of complacency as they defeated Prahran Assumption by 49 points at Toorak Park. Leading by just eight points at the main break, the Vultures piled on 15 goals to seven in a dominant second half. Thomas Waters (6) and Brandon Jackson (4) combined for 10 of the Vultures’ 17 majors, while Benjamin Dimattina starred in a BOG performance. Callum Wilson was a lone hand up forward for the Two Blues with seven of his side’s nine goals.
Five goals from Aaron Cloke helped Oakleigh to a 20-point victory over Preston Bullants at Scammell Reserve. After kicking 10 straight behinds in the first term, the Krushers managed 12.10 for the remainder of the match with Cloke and Gary Bennett leading the charge. Jackson Curic kicked three goals for the Bullants and Ryan Evans fought valiantly all game.
