Ormond will re-enter Premier C in 2019 after they defeated Hampton Rovers by 29 points in yesterday’s second semi-final at Elsternwick Park. Leading by 14 points at half time, the Monders won the game with six goals to one in the third term before the Rovers hit back with four to one in the fourth. Max Kennedy and Chris Coghlan dominated for the Monders and were named their best two players. Matthew Rieniets kicked two goals and was a standout for the Rovers, who will now play Oakleigh in next week’s preliminary final.
Oakleigh went one step closer to a dream grand final berth after they defeated Therry Penola by one point in a thriller at Bill Lawry Oval. The Krushers entered today’s elimination final in fourth spot after jumping into the four last week, and with scores level at quarter time, accelerated with seven goals to one in the second. The Lions worked their way back with six goals to one in the third, but it proved too steep a hill to climb as they missed a chance to win the game with a shot after the final siren dropping short. Aaron Cloke was hot off kicking his 100th goal last week and starred with eight majors for the Krushers, while Luke Pappon was outstanding. Jarrod (5) and Jordan (3) Bannister kicked eight goals between them for the Lions but there was a sense of missed opportunity after the Lions had 34 scoring shots to 25.
