Old Camberwell solidified third spot on the Premier C ladder with a 10-point come-from-behind victory at PEGS Sporting Fields. The Wellers trailed by 10 points at three quarter time but came out in the fourth and kicked four goals to one, overrunning their fifth-placed opponents. Joe Arnold top-scored with three goals for the Wellers while Cameron Wilson and Simon Bennett were best afield. Jackson Young was outstanding for the Bombers with three goals alongside Max Philpot. PEGS are now a game and 10% outside the four.
Fitzroy ensured there would be no repeat of the six-point thriller between themselves and Peninsula from earlier in the season as they ran out 132-point winners at Brunswick St Oval. Despite 14 scoring shots to six at half time, the Roys led by just 18 points before exploding with 19 goals to one in the second half. Nathan Jumeau continued his outstanding form in front of goal with a game-high six majors, while Lachlan Henderson and Bill Clayton chipped in with three each. George Fletcher was the Pirates’ best for the second time in three games as they now sit two games below Old Mentonians (8th) and with a percentage of 53.99%. The Roys remain second, a game behind the CYs.
Williamstown CYMS continued their dominance of Premier C with a commanding 101-point victory over St Mary’s Salesian at Ferndale Park. Leading by 24 points at half time, the CYs flexed their muscle and piled on 17 goals to five in a dominant second half. Nick Ebinger all but solidified three votes with seven goals in a BOG display, while Jack and Ben Gray booted four each. Another four CYs kicked multiples as they proved once again the team to beat in 2018. No results had been submitted for the Saints at time of publication, but they were accurate in front of goal with 10.3 for the day.
Old Geelong went one game clear in fourth spot on the ladder following their 37-point win over Marcellin at Marcellin College. Nine scoring shots to two in the first term set the scene for the Ogs as they continued to apply scoreboard pressure with 10 goals to seven over the final three terms. Will Horsfall and Jack Sheridan starred for the Ogs, while Josh Hoevenaars and Colby O’Brien kicked three goals each. Lachlan Rush led the charge with four goals for the Eagles, as they now sit two games outside the four in sixth.
Old Mentonians went two games clear of relegation territory with a 41-point win over Old Ivanhoe at Keysborough Playing Fields. Leading by 20 points at half time, the Panthers kicked a further seven goals to four in the second half. Jack Davis bagged five goals for the winners while champion Adrian Del Monte kicked five for the Hoers. The Hoers remain seventh with five wins.
