Six goals to two in the final term helped Old Haileybury secure their second win for the season, defeating Caulfield by 25 points at Princes Park. The Bloods trailed by nine points at quarter time but booted 14 of the final 22 goals and held a narrow lead at each ensuing break in play. Peter Gleadhill and Riley Thompson starred for the Bloods, while teammate Nick Gooda booted three goals. The Fields, who remain fourth but now lose their one game buffer over Beaumaris, were led admirably by both Louis and Dominic O’Keefe.
Eight goals from Chad Jones led St Bernard’s to a comprehensive 59-point victory over Old Carey in a top-of-the-table clash at the Snake Pit. Leading by 11 points at quarter time, the Snow Dogs exploded with 11 goals to three in the second and third as the created an unassailable buffer before the Panthers hit back with four goals to three in the fourth. Edyn Sibbald and Luke Di Lizio were standouts alongside Jones, while Jason Ashby and Tom Jepson led the charge for the Panthers. The Snow Dogs now move one game above the Panthers but on nine wins alongside the Blacks.
Goals were hard to come by for both Mazenod and Monash Blues in their Round 10 clash at Central Reserve, but it was the Nodders who came out two-point victors. Just seven goals were kicked for the match (4.11 – 3.15) as both sides struggled for accuracy. Rees Thomas and Augustine Patti led the way for the Nodders as their best players, while Jarryd Raffa amazingly kicked two of his side’s four goals. Beau Harris and Cameron Pither were exceptional for the Blues, but now have just one win from 10 games.
Beaumaris came from behind to claim their sixth win for the season, defeating Parkdale Vultures by 32 points at Gerry Green Reserve. Trailing by 17 points at the first break, the Sharks edged back into the contest through sheer weight of scoring shots, finishing the game 11.17 to 7.9. Robert Cathcart and Sam Gibbins each kicked three goals for the Sharks, while Charlie Dillon continues to hit the scoreboard for the Vultures with three of his own. The Sharks draw level with the Fields on six wins in fifth while the Vultures remain on four and in sixth spot on the ladder.
University Blacks climbed into second spot on the ladder via a commanding 75-point victory over Ajax at Uni Oval. The Blacks were slow out of the blocks and trailed by 28 points at the first break but were unrelenting as they piled on 17 goals to one after quarter time. 14 goal kickers shared the spoils for the Blacks with no one player kicking more than two, while Hugh Curnow was named BOG. Daniel Janover-Rocha and Richie Simon fought valiantly for the Jackas but they fall to ninth spot on the ladder.
