Old Scotch continued their dominance when they defeated the struggling Old Carey by 65 points at Camberwell Sports Ground. Old Scotch were a class above their opponents, winning every quarter comfortably, particularly in the second, whereby they kicked 4.7. Amy Arundel is a favourite to win the best and fairest for the Premier B White competition, after her Big V squad selection and another clinical performance for the Stars as best afield with 4 goals. Lucy Morely and Greta Larkey also impressed, along with Stacey Mastras with 2 goals. Olivia Atwell and Bronte Arnott were amongst Old Carey’s best in a tough loss.
AJAX attained their third victory for the season, ousting the still winless Hampton Rovers at Lindsay Hassett Oval by a mere 5-point margin. In a tight contest, AJAX took the early lead going into quarter time by 7 points, however Hampton fought back in the second term, kicking two goals to take the half time lead by a point. AJAX were able to run out the match kicking a goal in each of the following quarters, with Hampton only managing another in the last. In their most gallant effort thus far for the tough season endured, the Rovers’ Tarryn Hurst was influential with 2 goals, while Taylan Merrick and Chloe Mclaren fought valiantly. Madeline Smart contributed well to her side’s victory in a best on ground performance and two goals. Chelsea Fisher and Jessica Marget were additionally other solid performers.
Beaumaris moved into second spot on the ladder with a comprehensive 26-point victory over Old Haileybury. Leading by 11 points at three quarter time, the Sharks finished strongly with 15 points to nil in the final term. Ellie Hearne kicked two goals for the Sharks and Sasha Long was BOG. The Hearts, who are now sitting fourth following three consecutive losses to the teams above them, were led admirably by star midfielder Sarah Casey.
In the upset of the round, Old Mentonians triumphed against their higher ranked Old Brighton rivals by 9 points at Brighton Beach Oval. Accurate goalkicking was one of the influential deciding factors of Old Mentionians’ victory, kicking 5.2 as opposed to Old Brighton’s 3.5 – more scoring shots overall. Old Mentonians got off to a blistering start, kicking 3 goals in the first term. Each team kicked a goal in the second, with the score landing 25-9 by half time. The score was unchanged at three-quarter time, however in the final term, Old Brighton charged home kicking 2 goals to 1. Monique Maitland kicked 2 and was one of the best afield for Old Mentonians, along with Belinda Griffiths. Old Brighton’s Indi Tait was yet again her side’s star performer, with other notable efforts coming from Sophie Grant and Katie Grant, the latter with 2 goals.
