Old Trinity v Marcellin OC (1.3 9 – 2.4 16)
Old Trinity faced the in-form Marcellin in the Round 7 opener at Hudson Oval Playing Fields, with the reigning premiers coming out 7-point winners in the lowest scoring match of the season thus far. The Sheagles scored the only goal of the first half, however Trinity answered in the third term kicking a goal and only trailed by 2 points at three quarter time. Marcellin managed to seal the deal by kicking only their second goal of the match in the final term, enough to steal the win. In an unusually low-disposal accumulating day for either of the side’s top players, Clare O’Donnell was best afield for Marcellin with 15 touches, with other strong performances coming from Laura Robertson and Ellie Gavalas. Old Trinity’s Melissa Poulton and Ruby Dillon were gallant in their side’s narrow loss, while Lucy Aitken accumulated 14 touches and covered the ground well.

Fitzroy-ACU v Old Xaverians (3.4 22 – 2.12 24)
Ramsden St Oval played host to two teams crying out for a victory after both went two weeks without a win, Fitzroy-ACU and Old Xaverians. Old Xavs were away early kicking 1 goal 7 heading into the main break, raising concerns for the Roys with the ball barely reaching their forward line. However, an instant response ensued, with the Roys kicking 3 goals to 1 taking the lead by 1 point into the main break. Both teams remained goalless for the rest of the match with Old Xavs managing to kick more points overall, coming away with the win. Old Xav’ doubled the Roys in scoring shots, however only just pinched the victory due to their inaccuracy. Old Xaverians’ Amy Benifer starred with 45 hitouts in the ruck, Em Archer had a day out racking up 18 touches and a goal, and Audrey Rhodes kicked a goal and was an instrumental performer. Fitzroy-ACU’s Erin Gogerly continues to produce mind-blowing numbers, this week amassing 31 touches and 12 marks in yet again, another clinical all-round display. Lucy Kerr also attained 25 disposals in another dominant and consistent effort.

In another low-scoring affair, SKOB played host to Kew at Basil St Reserve, defeating the Bears by just 2 points. With both teams goalless in the first quarter and both kicking a single goal each in the second, the half time score was equal at 8-8. In a sharply contested match, Kew kicked the only goal of the third term and took the lead going into the fourth, however SKOB kicked a sealer, allowing them to edge past the Bears in the final minutes. Alexandra Hynes was pivotal for SKOB in the ruck gathering 55 hitouts, Margaret Gleeson racked up 18 touches and 8 marks, while Bree Doyle and Georgia Cropley attained plenty of touches, 24 and 20 a piece respectively. Sarah Cameron was also influential as she is on a regular basis with a goal, 16 disposals and 6 marks. Melbourne University v Caulfield Grammarians (12.7 79 – 4.4 28)
In the only Sunday game of Round 7, Melbourne Uni took on Caulfield Grammarians in a hard-fought contest, with the MUGARS coming out 51-point victors at Uni Oval. The MUGARS got off to a convincing lead early, kicking 6 goals to 1 by the half-way mark in the match. Caulfield won the third quarter which they have done so in nearly every match thus far this season, kicking 2 goals to 1, however, the MUGARS ran out the match in style with 5 majors, attaining their fourth victory for the season and edging past SKOB to snatch third spot on the ladder. The MUGARS showcased clean hands all day and flaunted cohesive, structured football, ultimately enabling their scoreboard dominance, and too, possessed extra class that Caulfield lacked in comparison. A vast number of MUGARS players had a field day, particularly Caitlin Grieser with 5 majors, presenting as an imposing forward presence with strong marking and kicking evident throughout the match. Katie Angelis bagged 4 goals, Leah Caluzzi racked up 20 touches and read the play extremely well, alongside Lucy Watkin with 17 and Steph Comelli with 14. Caulfield’s Millie Klingbeil was again superb and proved untaggable with 29 disposals and 2 goals, easily best afield for her side.
