West Brunswick’s reign at the top of the Premier B Blue ladder continued, defeating St Mary’s Salesian by five points in their grand final replay at Ferndale Park. In a tight contest, both teams were goalless in the first term, however both kicked away in the second, Brunswick managing to retain a minor lead for the remainder of the match. In a low scoring affair, Sonya Klimpsch, Ruby Svarc and Alice Angley were the most notable performers for Salesians, whilst Annie Mack, Rebecca King and Sarah Kenny were instrumental in getting West Brunswick over the line. West Brunswick now have 5 straight wins for the season and are looking solid flag favourites, whilst the Saints have managed only two victories thus far.
After a tough loss in the previous round, Old Geelong bounced back with a formidable 29-point victory against Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve. Old Geelong got off to a flying start, kicking 6 goals to nil in the first half. Old Camberwell rebounded in the second half however, winning the third term and holding Old Geelong goalless for the second half. Amelia Cronin, Matilda Arthur and Sharni Godfrey were amongst the best for Old Geelong while Sophie Bangs again starred for Old Camberwell, with other notable performers including Meg Harper and Isabella Burke. Old Geelong are back on track, making this victory their third for the season whilst Old Camberwell continue their struggle in a higher section.
Brunswick Renegades found form and claimed their second victory of the season against the winless Mazenod. In a one-sided affair, the Renegades ran away with the match early, Mazenod managing one goal for the entirety of the game which came only in the final quarter. Felicity Smith was named best afield for the Renegades, with other notable performers including Tahlia Hayes and Kate Sullivan. Laura Backhouse and Belinda Mason fought hard in their side’s loss. The Renegades are keeping in touch with the top four after a shaky start to the season, whilst Mazenod’s losing form may reverse when they take on Old Camberwell next week.
Monash Blues were flawless when they dismantled Collegians in a comprehensive 65-point victory at Frearson Oval. The Blues kicked 9 unanswered majors, leaving Collegians goalless for the entirety of the match. Ella Stephenson was a key target up forward booting 3 goals, alongside Emily Conroy with 2, while Hannah O’Brien and Polly Pavlidis starred for the Blues. Charlotte Pooley and Monique Horsley fought valiantly for Collegians. The Blues are proving to be a major threat to the top of the table leaders in West Brunswick, having only lost one close encounter to them, whilst Collegians maintain their middle of the table positioning.
