Hampton Rovers showed no signs of complacency as they went 5-0 with a 149-point victory over West Brunswick at Ransford Oval. 10 goals to one in the opening half set the scene for the Rovers’ fifth win in a row, before piling on another 18 to three in the third and fourth terms. Joshua McPherson is currently unstoppable in front of goal and booted another seven to take his season tally to 24 from five games, while Harrison Crisp was best afield. Evan Lloyd impressed for the Westies as they slumped to seventh spot on the ladder with a percentage of 60.82%.
Prahran Assumption dished out the performance of the week as they dismantled Ivanhoe to the tune of 166 points at Ivanhoe Park. Led by captain and Big V star, James Musster, and seven goals from Jack Matherson, the Two Blues kept the Magpies goalless to the half and continued their dominance with 15 goals to four in the second half. Will Brereton nailed six goals and Harrison Taylor chipped in with four. Sam Tansley was impressive for the Pies, but they are yet to win a game in what is proving a tough year and have a percentage of just 26%.
Therry Penola claimed their fourth win of the season with a 64-point victory over Brunswick FC at Gillon Oval. The Lions led by just nine points at half time but exploded with 12 goals to three in the second half. Corey Bannister backed up his six goals from last week with another five and Jarrod Bannister kicked four in his first game of the season. Brunswick is yet to win a game and sit ninth on the ladder but will be buoyed by standout performances from Nick Burgin and Lewis White.
Preston Bullants were made to work for their third win of 2018, edging past Kew by five points at Victoria Park. Scores were tied 72-all at three quarter time but the Bullants fought it out with two goals to one in a tough battle with the Bears. Pat Vanin’s form is as good as anyone’s in Division 1 as he was named best afield for the third week in a row and fourth time from five games, while Paul Sansonetti impressed for the Bullants. Jeremy Hannan was on fire up forward for the Bears and finished the game with five majors, but they are now eighth with one win and three spots below the Bullants.
Ormond made it five wins from games when they defeated Oakleigh by 14 points at Scammell Reserve. Matt Hine was the main destroyer in front of goal with five for the Monders while skipper Tom Buckley was best afield for the second week in a row. Aaron Cloke and Zach Pearce-Thomas each booted four goals for the Krushers. The Monders sit second on the ladder behind the Rovers and the Krushers are sixth.
