Westies, Sharks flying in Premier B women’s

PREMIER B BLUE

Old Geelong V St Mary’s Salesian (3.3 21 – 2.3 15)

Old Geelong recorded their first victory for season 2018 when they took down a gallant St. Mary’s Salesian. Kathleen Dunn was sensational for the Oggettes in a best on ground display. Lucy Gubbins, Laura Hallam, Ally Kirkwood and Anna Brodie were also notable performers. Saints goal kicker Rachel Gill was instrumental in her side’s loss with 2 majors, as were Ruby Svarc and Avalon Tickle. The reigning premiers will not be content with two losses to start the season; however, will be favourites up against the also struggling outfit of Mazenod. Old Geelong played well and are set to face the Renegades next week.

Old Camberwell V Brunswick Renegades (0.1 1 – 5.3 33)

Old Camberwell struggled against a flawless Brunswick in the wet, going down by 32 points and being left goalless for the entirety of the clash. Tahlia Hayes was exceptional with 2 goals in her side’s victory, as was Angela Snowdon. Whilst succumbing to a heavy defeat, Gabrielle Opray and Meg Harper were amongst the best for Old Camberwell. The Renegades will enter Round 3 1-1 for the season thus far and will go up against a tough opponent in Old Geelong next. Old Camberwell impressed against the reigning premiers last week and will look to put this performance behind them when they take on Collegians next week.

West Brunswick V Collegians (6.7 43 – 0.4 4)

West Brunswick proved too strong for Collegians in a dominant 39-point victory at McAlister Oval. West Brunswick produced fantastic football, with 5 separte goalkickers for the match, showcasing their side’s versatility and depth. Melissa Lindsay was outstanding for West Brunswick kicking 2 goals, so too were Laura Harris, Nahkita Wolfe and Hilary Grover. Angelique Doulgeris was best afield for the Lions, while Isabella Bowring and Christine Nancarrow fought valiantly. West Brunswick continue their flawless 2018 form heading into Round 3 undefeated whilst Collegians will look to rebound up against Old Camberwell in an important clash for both sides.                                     

Mazenod V Monash Blues (1.2 8 – 5.9 39)

Monash Blues continue to impress in season 2018, recording a remarkable 31-point victory over Mazenod at Central Reserve. Ella Stephenson was huge for the Blues, bagging three majors in a relentless and dominant display. Natasha Tile, Xanthea Dewez and Mimi Arnott were also outstanding for the Blues. Kimberley Watson, Katherine Newman and Claudia Maguire were the best afield for Mazenod in a hard-fought loss. The Blues have substantial amounts more depth and class this season which has certainly been showcased in the opening two rounds. It will be interesting to see how they fair against the also undefeated West Brunswick next week.

PREMIER B WHITE

Hampton Rovers V AJAX (2.3 15 – 3.3 21)

AJAX continued their winning form when they took out the Rovers at Boss James Reserve. Danielle Robinson and Chelsea Fisher were superb for AJAX, kicking a goal each and leading their side to a 6-point victory in atrocious weather conditions. Despite the loss, the Rovers improved upon last week with Gabriella Samkova and Bianca Lenarcic amongst their side’s best. AJAX have had a great start to the season and come up against Old Haileybury in what is expected to be a tight contest in Round 3, and the Rovers will face the in-form Old Scotch Stars.

Old Haileybury V Beaumaris (3.4 22 – 4.11 35)

Princes Park in Caulfield played host to two formidable sides in what was predicted to be a tight battle between Beaumaris and Old Haileybury. The Sharks ended up recording a 13-point win in the slippery, windy conditions, further enhancing their pursuit for the premiership this season. Stefanie Baxter was superb for the Sharks in a best on ground display. Sienna Tedde, Hailey Pratt and Katrina Bateman were also instrumental to their side’s success. Old Haileybury’s Sam Stewart and Jordan Shanks were notable performers and were clearly the best in their side’s defeat. Beaumaris will come up against Old Brighton in a much-anticipated clash next week, whilst Old Haileybury take on the undefeated AJAX.

Old Carey V Old Scotch (0.6 6 – 12.8 80)

The impressive newcomers, Old Scotch Stars, recorded an emphatic 74-point thumping of Old Carey at Carey Sports Complex, further solidifying their strong presence in Premier B (White). Stacey Mastras was magnificent, bagging 3 majors, as were Lily Goss, Emily McClure and Alexandra Theodosi, all synergising to produce a brilliant brand of football. Old Carey’s best included Jamie Head, Katherine Newton and Bonnie Price. Old Scotch have been extremely impressive thus far and are proving themselves to be genuine flag contenders, whilst Old Carey continue their struggle and will aim to attain their first victory against Old Mentonians in Round 3.

Old Mentonians V Old Brighton (3.3 21 – 3.5 23)

Old Brighton held on by 2 points to narrowly triumph against Old Mentonians in a thrilling clash at Keysborough Playing Fields. Ava Hales, Katie Grant and Annie Grant were sensational for Old Brighton, each contributing fine performances to get their side over the line in a hard-fought contest. Samantha Kerr, Madeleine De Amicis and Jesse Hamill committed themselves wholeheartedly for the entirety of the match for Old Mentionians; however, were unable to will their side over the line in the dying stages. Old Brighton will take on a fierce Beaumaris next week, while Old Mentonians will come up against the winless Old Carey.
