“The Peninsula Old Boys Football Club is delighted to announce that Shane Mottram has been appointed Senior Coach for the 2018 season. Shane’s appointment is our first step on the road to seeing the Pirates reset in C-grade and commence a new era of success in 2018.
Shane brings a wealth of playing, coaching and football club experience to our club. He has played over 300 senior games and kicked over 450 goals throughout his decorated career that started back at Melbourne U19s (AFL), Springvale & Frankston (VFL) and teams in the MPNFL & VAFA. In addition, Shane has over 15 years of involvement in coaching successful football clubs and is a great fit for the POBFC.
Shane has an extensive history in strength and conditioning having started back in 2001 at Seaford in the MPNFL as Strength and Conditioning Coach. He then had a number of years at University High (VAFA), taking the team to a premiership in 2003, before having a stint as Senior Playing Coach at Caulfield (SFL) and South Mornington (VAFA). In 2010, Shane moved across to the Frankston Dolphins (VFL) and led their Strength and Conditioning team as well as performing as a Development Coach and Senior Assistant.
More recently Shane has spent time as Development Coach, Runner, Scout, Strength & Conditioning Coach with AFL Victoria, Vic Metro (U18s). He is currently completing a Bachelor or Sports Coaching at Vic Uni and brings a high level of organisation and motivation to the Pirates for 2018.
Shane’s appointment is the culmination of an extensive recruitment process which yielded a high quality field of candidates. The club would like to extend its thanks to our coaching selection sub-committee led by Mark Glenn which was comprised of former players and coaches for all their hard work. Getting Shane on board heralds a most exciting period for the Pirates.
Shane is fully supportive of our aim to develop our young list and uphold our community values.
Shane, along with the current committee, is now looking to lock in additional coaches for the 2018 season. Further announcements on coaches and commencement of pre-season training will be made in the upcoming weeks.
There is a lot of hard work ahead of everyone involved at the club as we put together the rest of the on and off-field teams and Shane’s appointment is really the main piece of the puzzle and now we will build the team to meet our requirements.”
