The VAFA is thrilled to announce that six leaders from across our competition have been selected to participate in AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ Program in 2025. Selection for Lead
Bulleen Templestowe rose out of ninth spot and the relegation zone after they defeated Glen Eira by 69 points at Packer Reserve. The Bullants led by 27 points at the final break but piled on seven unanswered goals in the fourth term. Spiros Lambropoulos dominated from the outset and kicked four goals in a BOG display for the Bullants, while Brodie McLaughlin and Kristian Cherbakof added three each. Vaughn Colyer kicked a goal and was named the Gryphons’ best for the second time in his last three outings. The Bullants now swap spots with the Gryphons in eighth and ninth.
Emmaus St Leo’s came from behind and secured their seventh win for the year with a thrilling three-point victory over Yarra Old Grammarians at Bennettswood Sports Ground. Trailing at every break throughout the day, the Animals kicked 4.8 to 3.3 in the final term to edge past the top four fancies. It may have been a different story had the Bushrangers kicked accurately, but they will rue missed opportunities after they finished the game with 9.27 to the Animals’ 11.18. Brent Simons was best afield for the second time in three matches for the Animals, while Christopher Beluszar and Lawrence Virgo nailed three goals each. Nicholas Chamberlain kicked three of his own for the Bushrangers but it wasn’t enough as they now fall to fourth just one game ahead of Old Paradians in the fifth.
Old Paradians came within one game of the top four when they defeated Hawthorn AFC by 113 points at Garvey Oval. 43 scoring shots to 10 told the story of the Raiders dominance as they increased their 26-point quarter time lead as the match progressed. Danny Nolan outdid his own eight-goal haul from two weeks ago with nine majors, while Michael Marrone and Michael Bellizia kicked three each. Justin Raiti was the best of the Hawks for the second successive match while Matthew Downie and Stuart McAlpine top-scored with two goals each.
MHSOB climbed to third spot on the Division 2 ladder with a comfortable 75-point victory over Eltham Collegians at Melbourne High School. The Unicorns flew out to a 36-point lead at the first break and continued their run with 13 of the next 19 goals. Jarrod Sherwin and Kane Smith shared the spoils in front of goal with four each, while James Tran kicked two and starred as he was named best afield for the second time in as many weeks. Eden Simpson fought hard for the Turtles but they now fall to seventh spot on the ladder.
Prahran Assumption proved too strong for West Brunswick in their top-of-the-table clash at Toorak Park, coming from behind and claiming a 41-point victory. The Two Blues trailed by 13 points at half time but came out of the main break with eight unanswered goals. Tom Freeman and Dan Freeman starred for the Two Blues and were best on ground, while Timothy Maya top-scored with three goals. William Sadler continued his red-hot form for the Westies as they fell to just their third loss of the season.
