Three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter helped Aquinas come from behind and claim an eight-point win over North Brunswick at Aquinas College. Trailing by 13 points at the last break, the Bloods broke loose with James McMahon and James Wright leading the charge. Ash Naulty, Leigh Toomey and Billy O’Loughlin kicked two goals each in the low-scoring affair, while Peter Butler top-scored with three for the Bulls. The Bloods now sit a game clear on the top of the ladder as the Bulls fall to their second consecutive loss after commencing the season with 11 straight wins.
Manningham Cobras drew one-game closer to a top two position when they defeated Masala by 52 points at Koonung Reserve. Sitting in third position on the ladder and just one game behind the Bulls, the Cobras registered 35 scoring shots to 13 as they dominated the first three quarters. Kane Maghamez and Michael Muller bagged four goals each for the Cobras, while Adam Baltruweit starred in a BOG display. The Tigers finished strong with five goals to three in the final term and it was Samuel Freeman who led the charge in front of goal with three, taking his season tally to 26.
Mt Lilydale broke a five-game winless streak when they defeated St Francis Xavier by 35 points at Mt Lilydale Mercy College. Trailing by 17 points at the first break, the Rams exploded for 12 of the last 16 goals. Adam Thorne kicked three and was named best afield for the Rams alongside a trio of majors from Max Hampton. Sean Dullard and James Van Dam impressed for the X-Men as they fell to their 11th loss of the season.
Parkside snapped an eight-game losing streak in style as they defeated Elsternwick by 24 points at Pitcher Park. Trailing by two goals at the last break, the Red Devils piled on five unanswered goals in a dominant fourth-quarter display. Young gun Isaac Romano kicked three goals and Adam Wells was the Red Devils’ best player in his first game since July 1. Adam Myhal and Scott Grace were the best for the Wickers, who now sit two wins outside the four.
