Marcellin made it four wins in a row when they defeated Hampton Rovers by 57 points at Boss James Reserve. Nine unanswered goals in the first term paved the path for the Eagles’ emphatic victory and they maintained their lead until the Rovers returned fire with five goals to one in the last quarter. The Eagles shared their 16 goals among 12 goal kickers, but it was Daniel McMahon who top-scored with three and took his season tally to 30 from 13 games. Anthony Folino and Mathew Care were the best of the Rovers as they slump to their 10th loss of the year. The Eagles sit third and on the same number of wins (eight) as Old Geelong in fourth.
Caulfield Grammarians inflicted Old Ivanhoe with their third consecutive loss after they ran out 16-point winners at Chelsworth Park. Leading by 24 points at the main break, the Fields slowly watched the Hoers reduce the margin with four goals to two in the second half but held on through standout performances from Nicholas Fallu and Matt Neratzoglou. Dan Meddings was their only multiple goal scorer, while Nicholas Reeves-Smyth bagged his second lot of three goals for the Hoers. The Fields remain two games ahead of the Bloods atop the Premier C ladder, while the Hoers sit sixth, a game and 30% outside the four.
After losing to Williamstown CYMS at Geelong College in Round 2, Old Geelong returned fire with a 24-point victory at Fearon Reserve. Leading by eight points at the last break, the Ogs kicked three goals to one in the final term as captain George Burbury led the charge with four majors. Charlie Comben continued his outstanding form for the Ogs with a BOG display, while Finlay Adamson stood out for the CYs. Nick Ebinger returned from the VFL for his first game for the CYs this year and kicked two goals. The win gives the fourth-placed Ogs a one-game buffer between them and CYs.
Old Mentonians won their second game from the past three outings, defeating Old Camberwell by 18 points at Gordon Barnard Reserve. The Panthers kicked seven unanswered in the first term and, while the Wellers gradually reduced the margin, Mentonians were rarely threatened after that opening quarter. Luke Hull starred with five goals in the BOG performance for the Panthers, while Mitchell Trait was dominant for the Wellers. The two sides have swapped spots on the Premier C ladder, with the Panthers climbing to seventh and the Wellers replacing them in eighth.
Four goals to two in the second half helped Old Haileybury to a hard-fought 16-point win over Kew at Princes Park, Caulfield. Scores were tied 34-apiece at the main break before the second-placed Bloods nailed three unanswered in the third term. Nathan Waite kicked five of the Bloods’ eight majors, while Corey Connelly recorded two. Sam Glover returned to the Bears’ line-up and kicked three goals as they remain with just two wins for the year.
