Sheagles solidify third, Monders upset Ogs

A strong final quarter from Marcellin helped them to a 15-point win over Old Xaverians at Bulleen Park West Oval. Three even quarters saw Marcellin go into the final term with a narrow lead of just six points, before nailing two goals to one in the fourth. Jackie Greaves top-scored with two goals for the Sheagles and Angie Wang-Hartman was best afield, while Sarah Henderson snagged two for Xavs.

Caulfield Grammarians were able to edge out Brunswick Renegades by one-point in a thriller at Glenhuntly Oval. After trailing at the end of the third term, the Fields lifted with two goals to one while the Renegades will rue inaccuracy as they finished with 3.15. Simone Tribe (2) and Katherine Ellis (2) booted four of Caulfield’s five, while Lilli Owens-Walton was the Renegades’ best.

Top-of-the-table SKOB Saints retained their position atop the ladder after a comfortable 51-7 win over Old Trinity at Hudson Oval Marles Playing Fields. A strong four-quarter performance saw the Saints gradually build on their score, while also leaving Old Trinity scoreless for the entire first half. Sarah Cameron (3) and Georgia Lupson (3) kicked a combined six goals for the Saints, while Madison Bolton impressed as the best player for the T’s.

Melbourne University (1) were left goalless as they fell to Fitzroy-ACU by 65 points at Ramsden St Oval. The Roy Girls were able to increase their lead throughout the four quarters, with a strong second half of seven unanswered goals putting the result beyond doubt. Tasha Kroussov, Lauren Carlin and Hillary Grubb each kicked two goals for the Roy Girls, while Vicky Tan was named best for the Mugars for the second consecutive game.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT DIVISION 1

Beaumaris secured their seventh win after defeating Monash Blues by 50 points at Frearson Oval. A combined six goals from Thea Brown (4) and Danielle Royal (2) assisted in the Sharks’ win, which saw the Blues scoreless until the final term. Ella Stephenson continued her standout form for the Blues as their most productive player, while Stephanie Bornyan was best on ground for the winning side.

Ormond produced the upset of the round as they ran out eight-point winners against Old Geelong at Como Park. Ormond led for majority of the contest, with Old Geelong giving a scare in the final term with two goals to none. Tamara-Jane Lovett kicked two goals in a best-on-ground display for the Monders while Kate Macqueen and Mikayla Warlond also snagged two each. Elizabeth Graham fought valiantly for the Ogs and Lucy Gubbins recorded two goals.

West Brunswick reaffirmed their dominance and form, with a 73-point win over Old Brighton at Ransford Oval. Kicking 10 goals to nil saw multiple goal scorers, multiple standout performances and a strong team win for the top side. West Brunswick’s Laura Jago was once again impressive kicking a bag of four and Rebecca King was best afield. Annie Grant impressed for the Tonners, who sit sixth on the ladder and two games outside the four.

A combined four goals from Jasmin Cannizzo (2) and Lisa Davie (2) helped St Mary’s Salesian to a hard-fought eight-point win over Old Haileybury at Ferndale Park. The Hearts were trailing by 30 points at the last break before piling on four unanswered goals in the final term and getting within a goal, before two quick behinds helped the Saints secure the much-needed win. Fresh off a Big V appearance last Sunday, Davie starred in a best-on-ground performance while Claire Stark continued her red-hot form for the fourth-placed Hearts.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT DIVISION 2

Old Camberwell continue to prove themselves as premiership favourites after a 72-point win over Old Carey at Gordon Barnard Reserve. Goals aplenty from Eloise Defina (5), Ashley Sturrock (4) and Rhiannon Green (2) reflected the dominance of the Wellers, while Marli Wilkinson stood out as the Panthers’ best.

Ivanhoe secured their sixth win for the season after a 61-13 win over SBMT/St Peters AFC. Ivanhoe led throughout all four quarters, with four goals from Tahlia Day (2) and Federica Frew (2) assisting in the lead. A strong performance from SBMT’s Eliza Cooper was a highlight of their day.

After trailing at the main break, a strong second half saw second-placed Collegians victorious over UHS-VU by 33 points at Harry Trott Oval. A second half of seven goals to two helped Collegians to their eighth win of the season. Four goals from captain Lucy Cutts contributed to the Lions’ win while Madeline Hince and Sophie Louchart kicked two goals each for the Vultures.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT DIVISION 3

Melbourne University (2) stunned second-placed Mazenod with a six-point win at McAlister Oval. After trailing by over three goals going into the final term, the Mugars came out firing in the fourth scoring four unanswered goals. Olivia Turnbull produced a BOG performance for the Mugars, while Olivia Gober shone for Mazenod.

Ajax remains at the top of the ladder after they produced a 23-point win over Therry Penola at John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve. Following a goalless first quarter Ajax lifted and led for the remainder of the game with four goals to one. Julia Caplan kicked two of Ajax’s four goals, while Claressa Janineh kicked Therry Penola’s only major.

A low-scoring affair saw Old Mentonians defeat Hampton Rovers by 18 points at Castlefield Reserve. Although being a low scoring game, Old Mentonians narrowly led for the entirety of the contest, which proved enough to take home the points. Kayla Hamill was Old Mentonians best, while Elizabeth Dingeldei shone for the Hampton Rovers.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT DIVISION 4

Hawthorn returned to the top of the ladder after they produced a 32-point win over SKOB Saints (2) at Rathmines Road Reserve. A strong four quarters, with a four goal to one second quarter, set up the Hawthorn girls for their eighth win. Hawthorn’s Sarah Delbosc kicked two of six goals and Diamantina Kloufetos was best afield. Madeleine Pattison kicked the one goal for the Saints.

Spectators of Ferndale Park were treated to a thrilling one-point St Mary’s Salesian (2) victory over Bulleen Templestowe. With scores level going into the final term, St Mary’s were able to edge their opponents with an extra point. Penelope Heath shone for the winning side, kicking all three of their goals and Rachael Traplin kicked one and was named best for the Bullants.

Another low scoring contest saw Brunswick Renegades (2) take home the points against Fitzroy-ACU (2) with a 22 to 17-point at Ramsden St Oval. After trailing by seven points at the main break, the Renegades came out firing in the second half and kept Fitzroy scoreless. Brunswick’s Lauren Hagan was a stand out, while Bridie Murphhy was Fitzroy’s best.

De La Salle continue to pose as a dark horse nearing the seasons end with a five-point win over Swinburne University at St James Park. After trailing going into the third quarter, De La won both following quarters and recorded their sixth win. Tina Chokbengboun contributed to the win as she kicked two of De La’s five goals, while Brianna Murphy was Swinburne’s best for the fourth consecutive game.

South Melbourne Districts sit second on the ladder after a 39 to 27-point win over Canterbury at Gary Smorgon Oval. After a slow first quarter South Melbourne found composure and won the second, third and fourth quarters to win the game. South Melbourne Districts had multiple goal scores and stand out performances from Daniela Minutoli and Lauren Gibbs, while Lauralee Rinaldi was Canterbury’s best.
