The Big V senior representative side will look to draw level in the head-to-head battle with AFL Victoria Country when they do battle this weekend July 8 at Frankston Oval.
The two sides share a competitive history with AFL Vic Country currently holding an eight-games-to-seven advantage over the Big V, stemming back 33 years to 1984.
Of their 15 clashes, the inaugural match took place at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo, where the Big V came home with a hard-fought 19-point victory. It was a game that set the tone for future battles, as the two teams were inseparable at five wins’ apiece after their first 10 encounters.
In recent times, AFL Vic Country have had the wood over the Big V, winning four of their past six encounters. When they win, they win big, posting an average winning margin of 44-points in their eight victories. On the other hand, of the Big V’s seven victories, four of the matches have been won by eight points or less, giving them an average winning margin of 18.
The AFL Vic Country squad is made up of the best senior players across the state (excluding metro areas). This year’s contest will be no different, with eight different Victorian country football leagues expected to be represented, making the task for the Big V quite challenging but as highlighted below, it is nothing they haven’t overcome before.
