A seven-goal haul from Mitchell Sweeney led UHS-VU to their 11th win in a row as they continued their unbeaten run with a 59-point victory over Point Cook. The Vultures piled on six unanswered in a dominant first term didn’t let up as they maintained top spot on the Division 3 ladder. Brandon Jackson snagged five and was best afield while Kirk Heberle top-scored with four goals for the Bulldogs.
Three unanswered goals in the fourth term helped Canterbury to a thrilling eight-point victory over Albert Park at Canterbury Sports Ground. Trailing by 10 points at the last break, the Cobras lifted a gear in the last term and solidified their fifth win for the year. Jason Blakemore starred in a BOG display for the Cobras, while Jack Amies was a standout for the eighth-placed Falcons.
Richmond Central held off a fast-finishing Swinburne University and recorded a six-point victory at Kevin Bartlett Reserve. The Snakes led by 24 points heading into the final term but the Razorbacks nailed four goals to one to come within a kick at the final siren. Jared Goldsack and President Josh Sharp led the way with standout performances for the Snakes, while William Gubbins was named best afield for the Razorbacks. The Snakes sit in sixth spot on the ladder and just one game out of the four, two spots below the Razorbacks.
Westbourne Grammarians returned to third spot on the ladder following their 50-point victory over South Melbourne Districts at Lindsay Hassett Oval. The Warriors led by 26 points at the half and kicked another 10 goals to six as they gradually increased the margin as the game wore on. Charles Hunter (5) and Jaxon Cooke (4) combined for nine goals for the Warriors and Michael Culliver was named their best for the third time from the past four games. Scott Balestra impressed in his first game for the Swans at senior level this year, while Jordan Heis nailed three goals.
Five unanswered goals in the second term proved the difference as Power House defeated La Trobe University by 12 points at Ross Gregory Oval. The Trobers jumped the House with four goals to two in the opening quarter before the House exercised a dominant second term. Nicholas Nagel backed up his nine last week with a bag of eight, taking his season tally to 52 from nine games. Midfielder Sam Confait proved he’s a cut above with a starring BOG performance for the House, while Jonathon Neville (5) and Matthew Hay led the way for the Trobers.
