Old Ivanhoe claimed their fourth successive victory when they defeated Hampton Rovers by 21 points at Chelsworth Park. The Hoers were outstanding in the first half, kicking five of the first seven goals before a mini Rovers comeback in the third reduced the margin to 12 points at three quarter time. Four goals to three in the last was enough for the Hoers, with Sam Wilcox and Carl Groth starring. Roland De Biase was a standout for the Rovers and Oscar Roberts top-scpred with three goals.
Kew made it two wins in a row as they defeated Old Mentonians by 19 points at Victoria Park. Trailing by one point after a hard-fought first half, the Bears kicked nine goals to five in the ensuing two terms as Nathan Sambevski led the way in a best-on-ground display. Kyle Margaritis kicked five majors for the Bears while Cameron Sharp starred for the Panthers. The loss is the Panthers’ fourth in a row.
Caulfield Grammarians held on in the clutches for a hard-fought two-point victory over Williamstown CYMS at Fearon Reserve. Leading by 16 points at half time, the Fields were outscored seven goals to five in the final two terms but managed to hold on for an important win at the home of the CYs. Fields forward Declan Reilly bagged four goals and made it 20 from his past four matches (6,6,4,4) and Jack Presnell was named best afield. Sean McVernon and Tim Murphy starred for the CYs, who fall below the Hoers into fourth spot on the ladder following the loss.
Marcellin won their second match in three rounds, defeating Old Geelong by 54 points at Marcellin College. The Eagles jumped from the blocks with six goals to one in the opening term and didn’t allow the Ogs a look in as the controlled the match for the remaining three terms. Trent Carlson starred for the Eagles and Matthew De Luca top-scored with three goals. The loss ended a two-game wining run for the Ogs, but George Burbury continued his outstanding form alongside Edward Keach. The Eagles jump back into fifth spot and the Ogs fall to sixth.
Old Haileybury returned to form and ended a two-game losing streak with a 43-point victory over Old Camberwell at Princes Park Caulfield. With just two points in it at the first break, the Bloods exploded for 11 of the last 16 goals, with Durras Seccull bagging five goals in his first match this year. Adam Budge contributed four majors for the Bloods and Nick Gooda (3) was best afield. James Allen and Fraser Wells impressed for the Wellers as they fall one position into seventh.
