Old Geelong got one back over their recent rivals, Old Mentonians, as they ran out 49-point winners at Como Park. After losing the grand final re-match by seven points in Round 1, the Ogs were keen to wrestle back the momentum and kicked six of the first eight goals to lead by 33 points at the half. Another eight goals to five in the second half gave them a strong win and percentage booster as Callum Wood did the bulk of the damage up forward with four goals. Edward Gubbins was BOG and Tom Balcombe impressed for the winning side. No results had been entered for the Panthers at the time of publication, but with a spate of injured players set to return in coming weeks they should expect to return to the winning form they experienced in the first three rounds.
Caulfield went two games clear at the top of the Premier C ladder as they defeated Old Haileybury by 21 points at Glenhuntly Oval. The Fields led by just two points at three quarter time, but kicked away with four goals to one in the final term. Dominic O’Keefe and Tim Nixon (2) were the best for the Fields, while Declan Reilly continued his stunning form in front of goal with four making it 14 in the last three rounds. Jackson Arthur and Alex Woltering impressed for the Bloods, who have now lost two on the trot but remain second on the ladder.
Three unanswered goals in the final term helped Old Ivanhoe to an important 15-point victory over Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve. With both sides 5-4 prior to the match, the Hoers came from seven points down at the main break and kicked six of the last eight goals to improve their record to 6-4. Nicholas Reeves-Smyth starred in a BOG performance for the Hoers, while Dylan Buttifant and Brandon Lee kicked three goals each. Chris Hensby kicked two of his own as he was named the best for the Wellers.
Williamstown CYMS secured their spot in third with a comfortable 54-point win over Marcellin at Marcellin College. Leading by 20 at half time, the CYs piled on 10 goals to four in the final two terms; including, six in the fourth. Ben Gray led the way on the scoreboard with four goals for the CYs, while Samuel Callard and Tim Murphy starred. Mitchell Jones and Jackson Green stood out for the Eagles who just lost for the fourth time from the past five outings.
Kew registered their first victory of 2017, defeating Hampton Rovers by 20 points at Boss James Reserve. The Bears led by seven points at half time as both sides had shared changes in momentum, before kicking four goals to one in a game-winning third term. Kyle Margaritis kicked two goals and was best afield for the Bears, while Michael Hannan and Daniel Boehm nailed two each themselves and were impressive across the day. Adam McNeil and Christian Carnovale did their utmost for the Rovers, who fell to their fourth loss in a row. Six Bears experienced their first win for the club; including, two debutants, Josh Maccarone & Matt O’Dicho, and Division 1 scribe, Brin Duggan.
