UHS-VU continued their unbeaten run in Division 3 with a 24-point victory over Westbourne Grammarians at Brens Oval. The Vultures had 30 scoring to 16 with Mitch Sweeney top-scoring with five goals. Michael Healey dominated and was named best afield for the top-of-the-table Vultures, while Benjamin Johnson kicked five for the Warriors in a standout display. The Warriors, despite a bevy of injuries to key players, remain in fourth spot with four wins.
La Trobe University registered an important win as they defeated Canterbury by 10 points at La Trobe Uni Sporting Grounds. Jonathon Neville lit up the scoreboard with four goals for the Trobers and teammate Brady McDonald starred. Thomas Lowden kicked two goals and was named best for the fifth-placed Cobras. The Trobers are sixth but outside the four on percentage only.
Richmond Central returned to the winners’ column with a 29-point victory over South Melbourne Districts at Lindsay Hassett Oval. After falling to Power House in Round 8 amid a hot run of form, the Snakes kicked nine goals to five in the second half after an even first two terms. Cam Pullen continued his solid form through the midfield for the Snakes, while Jake Munro kicked six goals and took his season tally to 44 from nine games; nine more than Nick Nagel in second spot. The Swans’ performance was their strongest for the season so far, with Jason Clifford kicking five goals in a sensational display.
Point Cook and Albert Park played out a classic, with the Bulldogs edging over the line by three points at Saltwater Reserve. The Falcons led at every change but never by more than their nine-point lead at quarter time. The Dogs managed two goals to one in a hard-fought final term, with Robbie Milne starring. Daniel Duskovic gave Milne ample support throughout the day, while Thushan Shrimpton was best for the Falcons. The two sides sit eighth and ninth on the ladder but are playing at a level above relegation.
