West Brunswick came from behind to secure their sixth consecutive win, defeating Yarra Old Grammarians by five points at Doncaster Reserve. Trailing by 11 points at three quarter time, the Westies nailed five fourth-term goals to two as they edged over the line. Rhys Hartwig starred with five goals for the Westies and Alexander Schipp was named best on. Simon Yeo and Nicholas Chamberlain maintained their goal kicking form with four each for the Bushrangers.
Old Paradians claimed their second win in three weeks with a 15-point victory over Eltham Collegians. With scores locked at 23-apiece at half time, the Raiders won the game with five goals to one in the third. Panashe Masawi was named best on ground for the eighth-placed Raiders, while Danny Nolan kicked four in his first match for the year. Tim Woods kicked two and was the most impressive Turtle for the second straight week.
Bulleen Templestowe maintained touch with the top four via a 31-point win over MHSOB at Melbourne High. Five unanswered goals in the first term set the scene for the Bullants as they maintained the lead for the remainder of the match. Scott Dekeizer starred for the fifth-placed Bullants and Andrew Verga top-scored with three goals. William Hellier kicked four in his first outing of the year for the Unicorns.
Glen Eira Gryphons held off a valiant Emmaus St Leo’s by 15 points at Packer Reserve and notched their fourth win for the season. The Gryphons shot out to a 20-point lead at the first break but were made to work for it as the Animals kept battling away with both sides kicking 12 goals each after Q1. Ilya Fridman and Alex Erwin-Ross kicked four each for the Gryphons, while Ash Carey (two) was their most dominant player. Paul Baranello kicked four goals and was far and away the Animals best.
Prahran Assumption kept Hawthorn winless six rounds into the season as they ran out 106-point winners at Toorak Park. Jonathon Simonetta (five), Brett Dickinson (four) and Josh Hogarth (four) were the main destroyers in front of goal for the Two Blues and James Musster (one) racked up disposals at will. Tim Chapman and Aaron Downie fought hard for the Hawks.
