
VAFA club leaders join AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ program
The VAFA is thrilled to announce that six leaders from across our competition have been selected to participate in AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ Program in 2025. Selection for Lead
Masala fell just six points short of the securing their first in 2017, going down to Eley Park Sharks 94-100 at WJ Turner Reserve. The Tigers were leading by a goal at the last break but the Sharks sent through four goals to two in the thrilling final term. Christopher Brown starred up forward with six goals for the Sharks, while Feda Alidad top-scored with three for the Tigers. The Sharks are 2-2 from their four outings and in fifth spot while the Tigers are eighth and getting closer to their first win.
North Brunswick continued their unbeaten start to the year with a comprehensive 134-point win over Parkside. Jake George (six) and Patrick Notaro (four) were damaging in front of goal for the Bulls and William Croagh was named best afield. Competition medallists, Shane McLaren (OJ Meehan in 2015) and Isaac Romano (U19 Section 5 in 2016) impressed for a Red Devils outfit which is still on just one win after coming down from Division 3 this year.
Mt Lilydale jumped into third spot on the Division 4 ladder after defeating Manningham Cobras in a five-point thriller at Koonung Reserve. Both sides spent time in front with the biggest lead at any break just nine points at quarter time. Jesse Lehmann (one) continued his outstanding form in a BOG display for the Rams while Stephen Donald nailed six goals. Benjamin Tomazic (one) impressed for the fourth-placed Cobras.
Aquinas kept St Francis Xavier goalless as they stormed to a 175-point victory at St Francis Xavier College. Liam Whelan was unstoppable up forward with constant delivery allowing him to register 10 goals in a best-on-ground display. Coach Ash Naulty hit it with his best shot and was outstanding for the duration of the match, while Harley Crozier was named best for the X-Men. The Bloods remain second but now hold the best percentage at 239.91 and the X-Men sit ninth with the one win.
