Prahran Assumption ended Emmaus St Leo’s two-game winning run with a comprehensive 58-point victory at Bennettswood Sports Ground. Leading by 37 points with one quarter remaining, the Two Blues flexed their muscles in the fourth with seven goals to four blowing out the margin. Gerard Hogarth, Jack Matherson and Timothy Maya found the goals with three each for the second-placed Two Blues, while John Kapiniaris was the best of the Animals, who now sit seventh.
Old Paradians put a game between themselves and the bottom of the ladder when they ran over Hawthorn AFC by 36 points at Rathmines Reserve. The Raiders were unable to blow the Hawks out but gradually increased the margin as the game progressed. Will Gilmore and Christopher Kandilakis stood out and ran riot at Rathmines, while Aaron Downie did his utmost for the winless Hawks. The Hawks sit on the bottom of the ladder after losing 13 players from their Division 3 grand final side last year.
Eltham Collegians recorded their second win for the year as they outplayed Glen Eira to the tune of 30 points at Eltham College. Four unanswered goals in the second term set up the win as Brent Gutterson dominated with four goals in a best-on-ground display. The Gryphons registered the same amount of scoring shots (15) as the Turtles but kicked themselves out of it with 4.11 to 10.5.
West Brunswick held off MHSOB by the smallest of margins at Ransford Oval, remaining undefeated and holding onto top spot on the Division 2 ladder. Trailing by eight points at half time, the Westies four of the next seven goals and held strong in the low-scoring affair, 46-45. Coby Millar was named best afield for the Westies for the second successive week, while David Sorgiovanni kicked three goals and was a standout for the eighth-placed Unicorns.
A slow start did little to dampen the spirits of Yarra Old Grammarians as they came back to record a 13-point victory over fellow top four aspirant Bulleen Templestowe. Led by Simon Yeo (four) and David Wildsmith (two), the Bushrangers kicked five unanswered in a dominant second term. Yarra move to third on the ladder and just one spot above the Bullants.
