The VAFA is thrilled to announce that six leaders from across our competition have been selected to participate in AFL Victoria’s ‘Lead Your Way’ Program in 2025. Selection for Lead
Old Haileybury produced one of the performances of the round when they dismantled Caulfield Grammarians to the tune of 83 points at Princes Park Caulfield. Leading by 21 points after a solid opening half, the Bloods went up a gear with 14 goals to four across the final two terms with Nathan Waite starring in front of goal with eight. John Nicolopoulos chipped in with four majors for the top-of-the-table Bloods, while Jack Woodman battled away in his second strong performance for the Fields. Sitting sixth on the ladder, the Fields will be looking to hit back against an in-form Williamstown CYMS next week.
10 scoring shots to one in the opening term set the scene for a dominant Old Mentonians performance, defeating the highly-fancied Hampton Rovers by 90 points at Boss James Reserve. Increasing their lead at every break, the undefeated and second-placed Panthers were led by Kyle Conlon (three), Comrey Edgeworth and four-goal hauls from Brenton Schubert and Jack Davis. The Rovers drop to seventh spot on the ladder, while the Panthers continue to impress after earning promotion following last year’s Division 1 Grand Final.
Old Camberwell recorded the comeback of the round, reducing a 28-point quarter-time deficit to just six at the last break before piling on nine goals in the fourth to run out 44-point winners against Old Ivanhoe. Simon Bennett was the x-factor for the Wellers as he booted four majors in the last 30 minutes of the match. Cameron Wilson (one) starred in a best-on-ground performance for the Wellers, while Samuel Geilings was named best for the Hoes for the second consecutive match. It’s the second loss in two rounds for the Hoes after they made a semi-final appearance last year.
Williamstown CYMS stamped their authority all over Premier C with a convincing 51-point victory against Old Geelong at Geelong Grammar. Despite the Ogs unfurling their 2016 flag prior to the first siren, they were unable to curtail the CYs goal kickers and allowed 162 points against. Ben Gray (six), Mitch Parkinson (five) and Jack Gray (four) were electric in front of goal, while Nicholas Blackney dominated as the best player on the ground. The Ogs, who are yet to win a match in 2017, managed 111 points of their own as Charlie Youngman bagged four. The CY’s sit fifth on the ladder and three spots ahead of the Ogs.
Marcellin registered their first four points of 2017 with an 84-point win over Kew at Marcellin College. The Eagles were at the dominant best as records show they held the Bears scoreless for the first half and took a 42-point lead into the main break. A further 10 goals to three to see out the match gave the Eagles the emphatic victory, with James Robertson (BOG), Andrew Kay (four) and coach Jarrod Carlson (three) leading the charge. Mark Brazzale kicked two goals for the Bears who now slump a percentage of 28.7 at the bottom of the ladder.
