AFLW’s Brown to present trophies at Women’s Lightning Premiership

Carlton AFLW midfielder, Alison Brown, will present trophies to the winning teams on both days of the VAFA’s first-ever Women’s Lightning Premiership at Sportscover Arena this weekend.
Brown joined the Blues via free agency in 2016 and has been described as “one of the most promising young guns in the game” from coach Damien Keeping.
“Alison’s athleticism means she can work over her opponents from the start of a game until the end,” Keeping said.
“She’s a super exciting addition to our team, which will enthuse and thrill our members and supporters.”
Brown is a Caulfield Grammarian and will be at Sportscover Arena for the opening bounce on Saturday to watch her beloved Fields face off with South Melbourne Districts from 9am.
The Lightning Premiership will showcase 24 women’s teams across two days with more than 700 players anticipated.
Each team will play three matches with the top two, based on points and percentage, doing battle in the grand final each day.
Matches will consist of:
- 2×15 minute halves with no time on and a five-minute half-time interval
- Five-minute break between rounds
- Two umpires will be supplied by the VAFA per match
- 18 players per team on the field and an unlimited bench
